source? how many of those are considering tuition and athletic fees as revenue. I'm guessing a lot of those lower tier schools are pretending to have more revenue than they really have.

Interesting information, thank you for posting ES. I assume there's no data on Navy or Air Force?

Just think what they could bring in at Madison if the school sold beer...

Texas would be #2.

UTSA is in CUSA as University of Texas at San Antonio

Texas St. is in the SBC not CUSA. OP has it correct.

Source - looks like somebody has collected the individual school data from he federal Equity in Athletics website: http://ope.ed.gov/athletics/

The revenue definitely includes school subsidization, such as from student fees and transfers from general revenues.

RE: Total Revenues by Team (2013)
These figures should give pause to anyone who doubts the strength of the Big 12 and thinks it "needs" to expand. The Big 12 has average revenue of $87.5 million, compared with $70 million for the ACC. Even if you want to toss out Texas as an "outlier" (and FSU, the #1 ACC school), the gap is still big, $80 million to $68 million.

This means two things: (1) The Big 12 is by no means the weak sister of the P5, in fact it is arguably the #3 conference in the P5, and (2) the Big 12 has no incentive to add any existing G5 schools. It only has an incentive to add other P5 schools, and upper-crust ones at that (FSU and Clemson types).

Didn't originally have it correct, OP had Texas State in CUSA and UTSA wasn't in it. I was notifying OP of the typo.

More unaudited numbers with no standard basis of reporting. Long story short, you basically gave us garbage.

RE: Total Revenues by Team (2013)
Total revenue can vary greatly from year to year. A couple of years ago Oregon and Oklahoma State were in the top 10 because of huge, one-time donations. Wisky had a big year last year including a Rose Bowl appearance. I know the B1G shares revenue but the ticket sales and corresponding bump in donations are not shared.

RE: Total Revenues by Team (2013)
If you have a 100,000 seat football stadium, and a 20K seat basketball arena you are going to have some 1,100,000 tickets to sell on an annual basis, not including TV, Bowls, NCAA,, etc. It only stands to reason that you will have a great deal more revenue than a school with a 50K football stadium and a 10K basketball arena. Devoid of these measures as well as the size of the alumni based, and the size of the school, and the degree of ticket competition in the market, these numbers are almost meaningless.

It's one thing to sell athletic tickets in areas where the "game" is in fact the only "game" in town. If you are competing against local professional teams, or another major university in your market - that's real competition. It's also important to know if your revenue is based almost only on football, or is based on basketball and football, or just basketball.

Some interesting numbers:
55 UConn tops in AAC
64 BYU
65 SMU

Only 3 schools ahead of any P5 schools.

69-76 except #72 San Diego St. (tops in MWC) are AAC schools.
81 Rice tops in CUSA
85 Texas St. tops in Sun Belt
88 Miami tops in MAC

Northern Illinois is 11th in the MAC for anyone who questions why they haven't been invited anywhere else.

And Tulane #87 is bottom in AAC, but ahead of everyone in MAC and everyone in the CUSA and Sun Belt except Rice and Texas St.

Ohio after being #1 in the MAC last year dropped back into the pack.

If the growth of the past 5 years had continued they would have been over 30 million this year and sitting ahead of Tulane in the overall budget ranking. What this indicates to me is that jacking up the budget to position for a conference move is over.

These for for last year...Louisville and Syracuse both did extremely well (particularly the Ville) without P5 TV money. I expect both to increase $15M in the future.

It helps to have basketball pad the bottom line. Right Rutgers?

Basically yes...but it is all we have. Many schools pad their figures with mandatory student fees and outright cash influx from the taxpayers.

Any school that shows close to zero in profit/loss I assume to be BS and they probably are bleeding $$$

I think that's being too harsh. Sure, the numbers aren't exactly right, but they are probably good approximations. Anyone who thinks that they are 'garbage', such that we really don't know if Michigan is making a lot more than USF, is in denial.
