Very interesting to get the impressions from someone's first visit to the Dome.

Review of the dome from an outsider
As much as I dislike that place for basketball, the bigger bleachers on the side and perhaps upgraded bathrooms and concessions would make it serviceable.

Indeed. I feel they could even hang huge black drapes from the empty side to close it in and also one behind the student section(s)

And they could do that in December after football season is over. Until then they could play their first games at Freedom Hall.

Northern Iowa, Idaho State, North Dakota State, and Idaho don't seem to have those issues. I've never understood why they dont just tour those facilities, take notes and pictures, then apply it to the mini dome.

But NDSU doesn't play in the Fargo Dome. I couldn't really tell from watching them on TV the other day, but it looks like they play basketball in a bigger version of Brooks Gym. Capacity listed at about 5,800. I could see an open area behind one end of their court, but they don't have the same situation as we do for basketball.

RE: Review of the dome from an outsider
I think all the complaining and bellyaching about the dome is ridiculous. The answer to ETSU basketball attendance problem is get rid of Murry... hire a charismatic ambassador of ETSU basketball and win. It will be like 1989 all over again. I know it won't happen but that's the answer.

Idaho State is the dome that ours is modeled after. Notice any similarities?

RE: Review of the dome from an outsider
Looks bad for football and terrible for basketball. The Minidome was bad for basketball in 1989 and much worse now. The product was awesome, the attendance was incredible which made up for the poor basketball facility. I always loved the games in Brooks. It was a dump, but an excellent facility to watch a basketball game. The homecourt advantage and crowds were great. The place would rock something the dome couldn't do even with 12k fans.

I strongly disagree that the Dome wasn't rocking with 12k fans, I was in attendance for everyone of the Top 10 games (probably a lot more)
games in attendance at the Dome, It was a great, it was rocking and we did have a huge home court advantage. If small is all you need to make it "Rock" then lets just have the games in UH's gym.

RE: Review of the dome from an outsider
The has proven to be one of the best home court advantages in all of college basketball over the years. Murry is looking for anything to blame to keep his job. They have a different fire Marshals at Idaho State because they don't have attendance restrictions. ETSU needs to bite the bullet and do whatever the fire Marshal wants to get it's capacity up to the 12,000 seats that are in there. It would be great to have only one graduation ceremony. What would really be killer is to get 14,000 back in there for events like it was for the Marshall football game all those years ago. How much is it gonna cost? Level with us. Is it just a matter of putting twice as many door in the joint on floor level? ETSU needs to get this done....and Noland is just the man to do it. In the meantime, if ETSU wants to use Freedom Hall, that's fine but fill that midget arena up. I've said it before and I will keep saying it till something is done....ETSU has 2000 faculty and staff....15,000 students. There is no excuse to attendance at any game to be less than 10,000 with that in mind. Incentives to those you have relationship should be actualized. Teachers should motivate their students to be there as a homework assignment. English teachers....make them all write about some aspect of the game...Math teachers, make them do some sort of statistical analysis and so on for every class on campus. I don't understand why this isn't accomplished.
