Steel City Classic - UAB Scouting Report
This past weekend Birmingham held the first real High School Christmas Tournament in a long time. Featuring 16 teams including five state champs from last year and most of the Birmingham schools.

Jarvis Calhoun the good news - was a great shooter - lead the Tourney in scorer going into Saturday - bad news probably closer to 5' 9" than 6'.

Lewis Sullivan - Good news Very Athletic - looked like a basketball player - seemed too actually enjoy playing defense bad news too skinny to play inside for a few years.(even had trouble with the 6a kids).

Both kids will play a lot for UAB in their four years. I am very pleased.

Langford a soph for Madison academy is the real deal. If you like basketball go see him and Wenonah's Justin Coleman - I not seen anyone like JC since Enimo Whatley. Plus if UAT fires Grant as their fan boards want - maybe we can get the fab five back again

Heard big things about Langford for years. Hope we're pushing hard for that one.

I think Calhoun and Sullivan are going to be solid players. Not bothered by Calhoun's size... we had another pretty good guard here a couple years ago who wasn't more than 5'8''. UAB also just got lit up by a short LSU guard. Sullivan may be one of the more underrated signees of the class. He didn't get a lot of pub, especially after he committed to UAB so early on, but he has been putting up impressive numbers on the stat sheet.

I've meet Jarvis several times. I'm right at 6' and he is just as tall as me. He is certainly not 5'9". Size might be huge factor for his NBA dreams, but I don't think it will matter much in C-USA.

I think Calhoun will see solid minutes next year. One thing that was obvious in the LSU game is we need a consistent, long range shooter that has a quick release. The team has plenty of athletic slashers, but we'd be even more deadly if they could kick it out to a reliable 3 point shooter. Calhoun should be able to fill that void next year.

to do that
we need a pg who pass the ball sometime instead of going to the rack all the time
Rideau can be the 3 points shooter but he need the pg passing the ball to him especially when the pg is double team

Do you think Jarvis with play PG? I've always seen seen him as a SG. This is why I do think size will probably be a factor for the NBA.

Will have to I think at times, probably see a lot of box in one with him.

Any report on the Parker kid I know he's not a commit just interested?

I see JC as a 2. Then again I'm not the coach.
