No offense, but doesn't our conference winner play cusa's like 6th place team or something?

It was a win, but an ugly one. The Cajuns tried to give it away, multiple times.

For support of the conference, I have decided at times to go with Cajuns, instead of the usual moniker. I hope this satisfy Cajun fans. Enjoy it, it won't last forever.05-stirthepot

Congrats again, lots of fans, a close game, hopefully other bowls are taking notice. The 10th team from an BCS school would not bring that kind of crowd. Because of you guys, the conference shows that we deserve a tie in a "bigger" bowl. 03-idea

Actually, and correct me if I'm wrong, but couldn't they have possibly went to Mobile to play like the #2 MAC team be instead decided to take the match-up they did? If so, then there is actually some flexibility with the matchup the champ can take, which I feel ULL was wise in taking that matchup versus Tulane. That Dome was pretty packed.

The dome looked great. Definitely looked like it had the atmosphere of a big time bowl game instead of SBC vs CUSA.

Every effort should be made to make bowl tie ins as regional as possible.

Ok so using YOUR logic... The SBC is to CUSA as CUSA is to SEC.

I think CUSA and the SBC are equal on the field but keep it in perspective before spouting conference dominance... Your champ barely won against our 7th.

Last year of that contract. I am not sure where they will send their champ next year, though I would guess Dallas.

Nothing wrong with the Belt. I still watch their games and a win is always nice, but yeah, I wouldn't brag too much on this win. Some bragging yes, but keep it in perspective.

At the end of the day and forever, in this bowl season, its still SBC 1 Cusa 0.

I agree. Beating a CUSA team on their own field is not much of an accomplishment. But just to give the win some perspective like you mentioned . . . UL and South Alabama both beat Tulane in the Superdome. Guess how many CUSA teams did that this year? 0! Tulane was undefeated at home against CUSA and 0-2 against the Belt.

Everyone that pays attention knows that ULL backed into the conference championship this year. There was an overload of parity in the SBC this season. We had 2 tie for champ and 4 tie for third. And oh yeah, had 7 teams with 6 wins or more.

One thing everyone needs to remember about the circumstances surrounding this particular bowl and matchup, the Cajuns accepted this game after being defeated by ULM and having their starting quarterback lost for what could have been the remainder of the year with a broken bone in this throwing arm.

That he had surgery and still managed to play a month later seems like a miracle to me.

Had the Cajuns beaten ULM and had Broadway not suffered that injury, I suspect the administration and coaching staff would have pushed for a possible Indy Bowl spot against a BCS school and they'd probably have gotten it.

After all the shouting is done, I'm pleased with the way things worked out. We beat an in-state rival in their own backyard (good for recruiting), we won our 3rd straight New Orleans Bowl, we brought our 3rd straight record crowd to a national TV audience, we beat an improving team while we ourselves were on a slide, and we won an exciting, emotional roller-coaster type game and represented the Sunbelt well.

Despite what USAJAGOFF says, we didn't try to give it away. We played our hearts out to win and we did.

I'm very proud of what the Cajuns did this year and still believe that week-in, week-out, the average Belt team would give the average C-USA team all they wanted on the field.

And finally, hats off to the young qb Jalen who came in with the pressure of the football world on his shoulders and moved the Cajuns from their own 9 yard line into Tulane territory, eating up clock time Tulane needed and converting on a huge 3 down during that drive.

Do you really think I don't think your guys played as well as they possibly could to win that game??? The time I had posted that, your team had just gone from about 3 minutes to halftime up 21-0 to 45 seconds later 21-14. And you didn't come out real strong in the second half. You had the game in hand and made mistakes that just about gave it away at that time. Yes, your team was giving it away at that time.

Relax, just yanking your chain.

Yeah, as I said, it was a roller-coaster ride. When we jumped out to a 21-0 lead I honestly thought we were seeing the same Cajun team that beat WKU and stAte back to back on the road. And I'll be honest here, I wanted to see us run the score up to 66-0 if we could.

But, when the worm turned, it really turned against us.

However, as bad as it was, to see that freshman quarterback get us out of that deep hole, convert on a 3rd and long, and chew up clock really showed some tenacity and a will to win. And then there was Stover, not our regular field goal kicker (has he ever kicked field goals for us?) knocking through that game-winner in front of 50K plus and a national TV audience. Nads. Thems was nads.

Congrats Cajuns and congrats Tulane for not giving up when we dominated that first quarter. Made for a great game.

RE: Bowl Status SBC 1 CUSA 0
the simple truth is Louisiana showed up in droves to support their team and school and took the win even if it got ugly at the end

I think Tulane is on the upswing and they play some really good D and when they get the QB situation settled their O will probably pick up significantly as well

I think Tulane will benefit being in the AAC and the AAC will benefit from them, but as to yesterday it was 95% to the benefit of Louisiana because their crowd was huge for what is thought of as a lower level bowl game and the announcers mentioned the crowd frequently (Tulane should get some credit as well, but I think Louisiana had a much much stronger showing) and Louisiana walked away with the win and proof that their support is strong and growing

This was the matchup the NOB has been dreaming about. They new there would be a big crowd (55,000), which will give the Sugar Bowl competition in attendance, no matter what place each team ended up in, in their respective conferences. I don' t think they would have invited a #6 or #7 from CUSA if it wasn't in state Tulane and there first Bowl in 11 yrs. Its all about attendance and money, now that they tasted a little success. The last thing they want to do is go backwards.

Our champ played with a injured starting QB playing at about 60% and still won. Would be more then happy to play your team next season in the NO Bowl.
