Angry Huggins or Angry Knight...Who Would You Rather Face?
O.k. This is a little different post...If you were a player, ref, reporter, family member, innocent bystander, etc., who would you rather face... an angry Coach Huggins or Coach Knight? Why?
Two video examples of the men during their peak of wrath:

That Huggins incident doesn't compare to some of the angry tirades against his own players. The one I remember most vividly was with Donald Little in March of 2002 just before he made the game winning shot against Marquette. My wife and I were in the upper deck and during a timeout the crowd was standing and cheering, the band was playing and above all the noise I could here someone screaming at the top of their voice. I turned to my wife and asked who the Hell is screaming and she pointed to the UC huddle. Huggs was about a centimeter from Little's face, screaming at the top of his lungs his face beet red. It must have worked because Little made the game winning jump shot that sealed the C-USA championship for UC.
I have been a UC fan since Oscar's days and that game rates as one of my all time favorites.

I have a similar memory when my wife and I attended the Rock-n-Roll Shootout in Gund Arena in 2000 when Toledo beat UC. Same deal during several timeouts amid all the noise we could hear Huggs berating players and I could actually see his face contort, changing from red to purple, and the veins in his neck spasm.......can't imagine what it would've been like with him right in my face doing this.

Reminds me of the time I was sitting behind the bench during one of the CUSA tournaments and at a timeout he lit into Stokes like nothing I have ever seen. Kept calling him a f***ing pu$$y and lamenting as to why he ever recruited him in the first place while broken clipboards and spittle flew in the air. Huggs had an assist from Satterfield during the episode who said Stokes was always pointing out everyone else's mistakes and he could go f*** himself. Needless to say, no actual coaching occurred during the entire tirade.

ChatCat, I am about the same vintage as you (began watching UC in the two years before Oscar's arrival) and remember the Little shot to beat Marquette as if it was yesterday. I live in Virginia so was yelling at my TV when Little gets the ball with 2 seconds to go, "NO, NO!", and then "Yes, Yes!!!!" and then Bedlam in our family room.

A great game, I don't think 5/3 was ever louder.
Those were some of the best moments during that season. Though that game was incredible ......IMO it was topped the following week. We had put our coats on thinking UC had lost (Memphis St.) only to see Logan go the length of court at times dribbling and tip toeing down the sideline to THEN drive right into the middle of the lane.....and you know what transpired. Pandemonium IMO. I just knew they weren't going to be denied in OT. McElroy dominated in OT and we had another title. No doubt I'd pick Bob over Knight in coaching my kid.

BTW, until the recent wimpification of men, dirty words could never harm us.
On the other hand, as a coach, Knight was a thug.
Didn't they have to physically restrain him at some holiday tournament a year or so ago after he got into it with a fan?
RE: Angry Huggins or Angry Knight...Who Would You Rather Face?
This thread bring me back to the opening scene "Blue Chips". Nick Nolte plays a legendary basketball coach whose once proud program falls under hard times. Feeling the pressure within and from boosters, he starts breaking some rules. Nolte based his character on Bob Knight, whom he shadowed for a season.

For that game, vabearcat and I (he's my dad) were in Cincy, with my then gf now wife, who was looking at UC for grad school. We couldn't get a reasonably priced set of tickets for the game (attendance was better back then, scalpers wanted over $100 per ticket). So we watched it across the street in a Clifton BW3.
It was an enjoyable ending for sure. But unlike Little's shot, I kind of expected Lo to hit that.
