Texas high school football
Been watching their state championships all day. 54, 000 people at the game watching right now with one more game to go. The team about to win right now is Allen who built the 60 million dollar stadium that seats 18, 000 with luxury boxes. Something like 100 head coaches in Texas make 100 grand or close just coaching football. Talent is unreal. I remember Brian Kelly getting a few kids from texas would be nice to get a few of those. Dont remember any Texas guys playing at wmu recently. 2, 400 scholarship players out of Texas in division one right now.

Governor is about to give out the trophy. I guess football is just a little bit of a big deal in Texas. Doubt our governor knows where our championships are played.

I think there was one assistant that WMU had for just one year that had ties into Texas. They were in on a couple of kids, but of course didn't land one.

Fertile recruiting ground. Hopefully we plant a seed.

There was a QB that was all state in both Texas and Ohio. Couldn't cut it, moved on.

Ricker had Texas ties but I don't think he spent much time down there after awhile.

We got Seth Patterson, a WR, out of Texas. He didn't pan out and transferred to Sam Houston State after a two or three years.

Toledo and NIU are the only MAC teams with Texas commits at the moment. Hmm...

RE: Texas high school football
That Texas QB in 2004 was Alex Engram. All-State in Texas then All-state at Warren in Ohio. Heady credentials. A dual threat type at 5-10 215, likely his downfall at WMU.

S.I. Quoted offers from Iowa Kansas State, Nebraska, and TCU.

A freshman in 2004, other QB talent on hand Ryan Cubit, Blaine Baggett (that's another whole story), and Charley Molner.

Receivers that year included Gregg Jennings, London Fryar, Brandon Ledbetter, Tony Scheffler.

in spring practice, Alex would get lost in the tall timber, pull the ball down, and run for 35 yards. Bill would chew him out, didn't like those running yards. Eventually straight into the doghouse and Ryan took over.

That kid really fascinated me, I thought maybe he got a raw deal at WMU, but then he transferred to Alabama A&M or Alabama State and didn't do real well there either.

Right. He never really got it together.

Amazing in HS, you don't transfer into Warren Harding HS without the goods.

He ended up as a punter!

I remember watching that kid in the spring. I don't think bill was ready for a running qb at that point. He seems more open to it now. Kid had skills.

If he ended up at Nebraska, he would have been in better context.

Yeah, back on point, I often wondered how Darnell and Cubit ended up as far as a relationship, seems like Darnell could have steered some Texas talent our way.

We did have Reggie Berry out of Houston on the BBall team. All Mac 6th man.
