O/T: EMU Graduation Day
My oldest daughter graduated from EMU today with a degree in Marketing. Great ceremony and event. Lousy planning post-event.

The graduates were directed out the southwest door of the Convo. There was a small awning/canopy just outside the door to shield them from the inclement weather. Great idea, right? Wrong. It was about 36 degrees and raining. The graduates were in their caps and gowns and were, therefore, not really prepared for the cold and rain. The first kids out the door held up under the awning/canopy because they didn't have umbrellas or raincoats (why would they, they had just finished the graduation ceremony INSIDE the Convo). So, a log jam of graduates ensued while parents and loved ones were waiting out in the cold and rain for them to emerge from the Convo. By the time all of the graduates emerged from the Convo everyone was pretty well soaked. Yeah...

As I was standing in the cold and rain I couldn't help but wonder what EMU was thinking. Someone planned this event. Someone intended for the graduates to emerge from the Convo from the southwest door - into a December 21st day - the first day of winter. Did no one look at the weather forecast to see what the elements would be like, awaiting people who were in caps and gowns as they emerged from the Convo? Albeit it minor, what about the folk waiting on the graduates? Did no one give them any thought? How about contracting a tent or a canopy rental service to erect a canopy or tent to protect, at the very least, the people in caps and gowns? Or, maybe, one large enough to protect everyone standing at the southwest exit? Seriously. What was EMU thinking? What would they have done if it had been snowing? Or, if the temperature had been in the single digits or teens? Cold and rain is bad enough but it could have been worse.

I will be writing an email to EMU about this. Very happy for my daughter and the actual graduation ceremony but very displeased with the post-ceremony planning.

Sometimes in life we are inconvenienced, it says more about us as people when we deal with those inconveniences in a kind and respectful manner. So you got wet and cold, might be time to look in the mirror and ask yourself what's really important in this world. Merry Christmas, good luck with your angry email. Hope it makes you feel better.
Go eagles!!!

Thank you for your witty and charming response. I graduated with my bachelor's degree in 1990 and my masters degree in 1996; so, I am hardly an EMU basher. You might check your facts next time before issuing accusations. Of course, there is an old saying, "When you assume you make an "ass" out of "u" and "me". Your assumption is baseless and ignorant.

I never stated that the tent had to accommodate 5,000 to 6,000 people. Rather, I stated that EMU should have made provisions to at least keep the graduates, who were in caps and gown, out of the elements.

Responding to your ignorant post made me feel a lot better.

Everyone owes you something, I've read your posts and you sound like a jaded school girl whose boyfriend just broke up with her. You are a complainer; I'm sure its been a life long affliction that has caused you problems. You are also a punk, someone who will surely talk disrespectfully on an on-line forum but in a face to face situation in the real world something tells me the interaction would go in a different direction. You see in the real world actions have consequences, I doubt you are capable of dealing with those consequences. Maybe that's why you are so angry; I'm assuming you were picked on as a child, you were maybe even bullied. For that I'm truly sorry, no one should have to go through that type of experience, however you're a grown up now, its ok to let it go. Don't think for one second your whining and crying on these forums are anything other than annoying. I too attended EMU for my undergraduate and graduate studies and I don't believe they owe me anything. EMU doesn't owe you the perfect graduation, a raincoat, a umbrella or anything else. I'm sure many people attended the graduation and stood in the rain without complaining or crying because the opportunity to watch a loved one graduate consumed their day, not the weather. You on the other hand are so petty and childish you focused on the negative, like a petulant child who didn't get their way . Respond with you jokes about assuming if you'd like but I'm sure I hit the nail on the head, under different circumstance in a different venue, perhaps in person your response would be a little less disrespectful; like I said those situation tend to have a little more decorum when men like you are involved. Congratulations to your daughter, I hope you didn't ruin the day with you complaining and generally depressing nature.

Thank you!
