Home school basketball
I just finished watching all four of my oldest son's children play basketball games today. They are in a home school co-op in Ft. Smith, and they were playing a similar group from Little Rock. Adam (my son) had told me that the national home school tournament now gets a lot of college attention. Nothing like the talent coming out of the public schools, but there is enough there now that coaches cannot ignore it. Every year there are a few signings from home schoolers with D1 colleges. When Adam first told me that, I was a little skeptical. But then he reminded me that basketball is essentially the only sport in homeschooling, and so anyone who participates in athletics will be in basketball. The talent, such as it is, is not spread among basketball, football, baseball, track, wrestling, etc.

I really was surprised at the talent level. I had been at the Magazine-Mountainburg game the night before and seen both junior and senior boys play (Class 2A). It is a little difficult to make a direct comparison, because my oldest grandson plays in the 16 and under group, which does not match up directly with either junior high or senior high. However, if they had played against either Mountainburg or Magazine minus their seniors, it would not have been a slaughter by any means, and the home schoolers may have superior talent. They remind me of the old days when kids from non-football schools played basketball all year round. Frankly, I was impressed, and surprised.

Justin Jackson, who has signed with North Carolina, is from a Texas home school association. He had offers from a list of top-level schools.

If I'm not dreaming this, I believe that I remember the Arkansas Activities Association passed a policy that a home schooled student may participate in activities and sports at the high in his or her district.

That is correct. I know a young lady in Ozark who chose to homeschool (her decision) her senior year, but is playing on the team.
