UTEP 46, WSU 36 with 7 and a half left.

We've decided to stop guarding the three.

UTEP's first non-conference road win outside of Las Cruces since beating Richmond in the 2009 CBI.

I didn't believe it when Teicher said it, but it's true. Although, we've only had 7 OOC road games outside of NMSU since 2009. Four of them came against teams that were in the top 25 at the time, a fifth came against UNLV who finished ranked #21, a sixth was against CSU last year, a 7th was against Oregon they weren't great, but did make it to the NIT quarters that year.

6 and 7 on the day.

This is going to be a very competitive season. I still don't see a clear cut favorite heading into conference play.

For me personally, it is still UAB.

Charlotte is too damn inconsistent. We were up 20+ at one point today I believe (I actually didn't watch the game due to other commitments) and ended up letting USC-Upstate take the lead with a few minutes left. We ultimately won, but it should have been a blowout.

MT reminds me a lot of Charlotte in the games I've seen them play. Talented, but inconsistent and prone to scoring lulls.

UTEP has talent, but they're inconsistent.

USM is hard to judge. They have beaten some solid mid-major teams, but have largely played a weak schedule.

I've watched La Tech play 3 times and while they're not a bad team, I wasn't super impressed either. Maybe I just caught them at their worst.

I don't think ECU is a contender for the regular season title, but they seem like the kind of team that could get hot and win the tournament and it looks like that might be all that matters in CUSA this year.

Congrats.

Not the most impressive tournament I suppose, but winning a trophy is always a good confidence builder for a team.

Considering that about a month ago, the tournament was reported as possibly getting cancelled (would have put a huge gap in our scheduled).

Would have hoped our schedule would be rated higher than 158... but we've got one more home game with Drexel, so we really need that one before conference play begins.

I agree with your view of ECU, depth issues will keep us from contending for the regular season title, maybe if we still had Armstrong and Guilmette maybe. If we had gotten Erin Straughn with Ty Armstrong and Marshall Guilmette I think we could, and could possibly be undefeated right now or have only one lose. But, we don't have them.

But, in the conference tourny, we could get hot if we have the right draw and might could pull it off, but depth will still be the issue.

Dawgs played really solid tonight - if we play like that the rest of the season then we will be just fine.

Regardless of what people would say around here I have been pretty skeptical of how good our team could be ever since the press release came out saying Armstrong and Straughn were done. I'm starting to believe we can be the dark horse contender now though.

Some of that is simply from the fact that there are no great teams in CUSA. The other part is we have played some very high level ball this year, and for the most part have brought consistently good efforts. There has really been no complete dud, and we have found ways to hang around or dig out of holes and close out close games and I think that's something that we will carry into conference.

I do believe we have one of the best if not the best offensive team in CUSA this year and that alone should get us in the conversation. Also Caleb White is really stepping up if late and becoming a nightmare matchup. He's averaging 15.4 ppg the last 6 games.

I'm less worried about the size issues the better he plays because most teams that try to put 6-8, 240lbs out their at PF he is starting to make them pay for it on the offensive end. I think you'll see a lot of these CUSA schools having to play our game and go small adapting to play us or he's going to end up feasting on them. If we can minimize the size issue some like this and we have just about as much talent as any team in CUSA even if it's playing out of position in spots.
