Football attendance
http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2013/...7892511236

I think I have it set up so that the charts at the bottom automatically display the MAC.

This has me wondering what's up with Ball State's attendance. Do they report things differently? I know they had more fans than that.

BG wins the conference...and goes down?

Something is failing there.

We won the conference last year and went down.

RE: Football attendance
Very encouraging to see such a spike from Buffalo and Akron, NIU and WMU also jumped up pretty well. Miami's attendance is very misleading of course, we definitely did not have over 20,000 for CMU or 10,000 for our weeknight games; still nice to see ticket sales increase despite going winless.

As far as BG goes, I think it comes down to how they capitalize on their MAC championship. 007 pointed out how they went down from 2011 to 2012, but their back-to-back MAC titles/Orange Bowl appearance probably boosted fan confidence and brought them out to Huskie Stadium for two sellouts and two well-attended weeknight games. Of course, going undefeated in the regular season helps quite a bit.

Rockets should be back up in 2014. With the opener against New Hampshire and other home dates with Mizzou, BGSU, CMU, Ball State.

The only reason Akron and Buffalo are up is by lying through their teeth. I saw games and pictures. Don't tell me it's "tickets sold" either. You don't sell 22,000 tickets only to have 5,000 show up unless there's a monsoon. It's flat-out lying...no if's, and's or but's about it.

Were you at the Akron/Ohio game? It was a monsoon.

Same day as that Kent NIU game right that day was awful and that was Kent's homecoming.

It was homecoming for both Akron and Kent that day.

If the MAC seeks a conference attendance boosts, adding lowly fcs James Madison would drive up the average. 04-cheers

Miami must be counting the number of seats in its stadium, not the number of people actually sitting in the seats.

C'mon gang, we all know "reported" MAC attendance is a joke so why even discuss it. Every team seems to have it's own accounting method.

As a Kent State fan, I believe ours is "tickets sold" but that counts all sorts of gimmicks. I think it's safe to say that MAC attendance is still pitiful except for early season, rival games played in good weather on Saturday between undefeated teams expected to compete for the MAC title, played at a specific time to avoid all important games (including High School) from any other team coast to coast. All MAC games played outside of the parameters described above typically results in poor attendance.

RE: Football attendance
We should be solid next year in the upper teens after going from roughly 10.9 k to 15.9k. Next year we have a home game against Boston College. BC fans will go if they expect to win and win big, but if it's like BB in Boston, they don't show-up and even in their home court, it becomes our home court.

There is a solid change we can beat the 32.8k attendance for the first Gillette game against UNH.

Why not schedule New Hamshire every year? UNH might be a tough challenge this soon, but I think your scheduling is already booked the next few years and by that time you will out-power them. UMass vs UNH always at Gillette would be a good attendance as one of your 3. I think Molnar said he thinks Gillette should always be BC or UConn, and another FCS New England team plus one MAC team. Temple would also work.

We have a Home and Home with Temple for 2015 and 2017. Think they are working on UConn and then perhaps UNH. The issue is Maine would take the game receipts of 160k, smaller crowd. UNH demands at least twice that so it's down the road.

RE: Football attendance
We have been complaining for years about how BSU counts students. In essence, they might count 1 in 5 or 6, and our student attendance is usually very good. The other issue is midweek games, particularly when it is either pouring rain or very cold. We also had one of the dreaded black Friday games, against a winless opponent none the less. Students are home on break and aren't going to come back unless the game has meaning.

Its actually pretty easy to sell 22,000 tickets only to have about 5,000 show up ... just have 5,000 fair weather season ticket holders and 12,000 of the tickets bought by five guys.
