Quote:Chad Brendel @ChadBrendel 1h
Hearing the waiver for Jamaree Strickland to practice this season has been denied by the NCAA. He will join the team next season.

RE: Waiver for Strickland denied...
Of course I'm bias, but this decision sounds like total horsesh*t to me. If they don't want him to play in actual games to avoid the risk of a possibly ineligible player affecting the outcome, I kinda get that, but practice? Didn't we used to let some of the better male players from the intramural teams play against the women's basketball team in practice? I don't think those guys had to get vetted by the NCAA clearing house just to participate in a practice.

Another NCAA thumb in UC's eye.

It's a shame UC isn't Louisville, or Duke, or someone like that.

He had classmates that were admitted to ivy league schools that are facing the same issue. It's bizzare.

RE: Waiver for Strickland denied...
1. Does this mean he still has a chance to be cleared at some point this year?
2. Why does the NCAA care who practices with the team? It seems like anyone should be able to practice, it's not a game.(Sorry if you just read that in Allen Iverson's voice.)

He is done for the year.
The NCAA cares because he is on an athletic scholarship.

They have had it in foruC BB since Lasalle Thompson so we should not be surprised.

You can believe that if you want but there is no vendetta by the NCAA.
The school or kid screwed up and he didn't qualify. End of story.

On the coach's show Mick said it had nothing to do with the kid. The school screwed him.

How is his situation different from Shaq Thomas? Wasn't Thomas able to practice? It makes no sense to me.

RE: Waiver for Strickland denied...
At this point, it likely would be too late for him to really contribute this season, so he'd probably have to burn his red shirt season, so at least now I believe he will still have 5 years for 4 years of playing, so at least he has that going for him.
But I still think it is a raw deal. From my understanding, the kid's grades were excellent as were his test scores, but he had one class that was a core class in the schools eyes, but not in the NCAAs eyes. It be one thing if the kid's grades were borderline, but from all indications he was an excellent student who is getting punished. It does seem that UC gets hammered with the ticky tack stuff more than others, though it is probably because we are close to it. At least we have closure, even though I don't understand why it takes so long and why the blue blood schools get their answers immediately and we typically seem to wait until well into the season.

Even though he wouldn't play this season at this point this makes the situation even worse, it's tough to imagine him being effective next season after not being able to participate in organized practice this season. Salt in the wound for this kid.

I think Myck Kabongo and Texas would vehemently disagree with that.
