Interesting to see that both of these teams would agree to give up a non-conference home game, especially Florida, who NEVER plays non-conference games outside the State of Florida. Also curious as to who will be coaching these teams in three and half years. These games are pretty well established in Atlanta and the Metroplex, I can only imagine that other NFL stadiums will try to jump on this bandwagon and organize P5 intersectional games to open the season. I would think Giants Stadium, San Diego, the 49ers new place, Indy, Chicago, Houston and New Orleans would be good candidates for Labor Day weekend match ups. It would also be really cool to see the Big Ten and Big 12, ACC or SEC agree to play a game at Lambeau in late summer.

That has the potential to be a brutal schedule.

If SEC goes 9 games- Florida with Michigan and FSU- even with 1 cup cake- that's a really tough schedule as well...

That's probably less than a home game for either Florida or Michigan, but given there is no return game required it's almost definitely more profitable than a home and home.

It's not a brand new concept. And frankly, I don't think it's a good concept if it's used too often. College sports are supposed to be about the students, and few students are able to attend these games that are far from campus.

I agree with the sentiment. I reluctantly have to say that it fits more with an earlier time when everyone was making do with more modest facilities, and major-conference head coaches, even winning coaches, were making salaries in the low six figures.

Now, big-time CFB is a beast with a ravenous appetite for money. Dozens of head coaches (even those who don't win) are over $2 million a year, and almost as many schools want or have built facility improvements that cost upwards of $100 million. The students walking over to the stadium from the dorms and frat houses aren't going to pay for that even if every student shows up at every game.

Hard to predict what any team will be like in 4 years, but this year, at least, that would be a cup-cake OOC schedule.

I had forgotten about the LSU-Wisconsin matchup at Lambeau and didn't realize that it was paired with the game in Houston next season. Is there any indication that these two games are just one-offs in each location? I would think that if the attendance is good at one or both these games that they could easily serve as springboards for annual, branded games like the Cowboys Classic and the Chik-Fil-A Kickoff Game. I would think the Space City Shootout or the Lambeau Field Labor Day Fracas would be popular annual events.

I believe Reliant Stadium has hosted a number of college football games. The 2016 game at Lambeau will be that stadium's first-ever college football game. It will be a very cool one-off event, but I doubt it would become a regular thing at Lambeau. Green Bay is a pain to get to and there's not a lot of stuff to do there other than be amazed at the town's sheer PACKERPACKERPACKER obsession.

Reliant Stadium is trying to start an annual tradition of hosting a game every Labor Day weekend.

Miss State and OK State started the season there this year (attendance was pretty poor, FWIW).

LSU and Wisconsin in 2014.

Texas A&M and Arizona State are scheduled in 2015.

Charlotte is trying to get in on the game as well.

South Carolina/ECU in 2011 and South Carolina/UNC in 2015. I know ECU has played several other games there recently too against p5 teams.

To ammend my earlier statement, college sports is partly about the students, but also partly about the alumni. It makes sense for Mizzou to occasionally play in Stl, or Syracuse to occasionally play in the Meadowlands. It even makes sense to occasionally play farther afield for the few schools that have a semi-national fanbase (like ND/BYU/service academies).

But for Florida/Michigan to play in Texas? That just seems to be a disservice to the fans of both schools. I know they both have large fanbases, but I'd be shocked if either school has more than 1% of their alumni base in Dallas/Ft Worth. Florida/Michigan would make a lot more sense in DC.

OU earns $4/M for a home game; this figure is dated but it is the only figure I have seen.

OU and Texas each make $7/M from the Cotton Bowl/Dallas game, in part to the city of Dallas throwing in financial incentives plus very high ticket prices.
