Actually, Copyright 1996.

That was the last time two West teams met in the finals. Who were they? Toledo and EMU.

Further: in the 17 years since that West vs. West game happened, there have been 7 championship games with East vs. West, with the West winning 4. The other 10 match ups, including the last 7 straight, have been East vs. East.

And EMU won and later beat Duke in the NCAAs and gave #1 seed UConn a real battle for the 1st half of the next round.

Just a little history for those who are what millennials?

Who exactly have they beaten of note this season? They are playing a really tough schedule but they haven't beaten any of the top teams. It is still too early in the season to put too much into the RPIs. SOS is boosting the RPI.

Green Bay. Going by RPI (I know it's early), it's the best win in the conference right now. They're the favorites in the horizon league and were coming off a win over Virginia.

Time to tell lies with statistics!

In the past 17 years, the West's winning percentage in championship games is 57.1%

The East's winning percentage is 48.1%.

I wish the East would stop holding the MAC down in basketball! 05-stirthepot

You might also note that teams from the East have lost in each of the last seven years at least. Sad commentary on that division. The West hasn't lost a championship game in nearly a decade.

Okay, and the West is all about basketball in 2014.

I'm ignoring Yogi Berra's advice and trying to make predictions about the future. 04-jawdrop

Though with four of the East between #2 and #3 in the West, if that plays out in the conference season the West would be about a Top Two and Little Four.
