UIW Men's Soccer to the WAC
http://www.wacsports.com/ViewArticle.dbm...M_ID=10100

WAC will soon have 12 teams for Men's Soccer (Chicago St and UTPA will have it next year I believe). This gives some insurance for the WAC if the MW decides to sponsor soccer as 5 MW schools have men's soccer and would only need 1 affiliate to be eligible for a auto-bid for soccer.

Or if the PAC-12 wanted to expand from 6 to 10 teams and took the other 4 MW teams (UNLV, SJSU, Air Force & New Mexico) that sponsor men's soccer as affiliates (San Diego St plays in the PAC-12). That would actually be a pretty good conference and fairly tight geography.

Without cheating, how many people know what "UIW" means?

Hell, how many people have even heard of "UIW"? Honestly, I was trying to think of towns in Idaho, Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana that start with "W".

I'll be honest - I'm about as much of a conference realignment junkie as you can get and I was at a complete loss about who/what/where that school was. Learn something new everyday.

RE: UIW Men's Soccer to the WAC
So if understand correctly, the 5 MWC conference teams play soccer in the following:

PAC-12: SDSU
WAC: Air Force, SJSU, UNLV
C-USA? - New Mexico

SO when do you think the MWC will start sponsoring soccer? Do they have any incentive to?

I'm not sure if the MWC has any incentive. Because they can start to sponsor soccer with just 1 affiliate. Maybe a few years down the road with the increase in from the playoff $$ they be able to sponsor as a conference. However, I'm wonder if perhaps the PAC-12 wants to get to 10 teams in soccer and include the remaining MW teams. The geography is tight with the exception of Air Force and New Mexico.
It could be fun to get creative to have 2 division of 5 (1 with MW schools and 1 with PAC schools)

that would be a downgrade for UNM & SDSU; not sure they'd go for MWC soccer

Living outside of San Antonio, I know who they are.

They are a bunch of pompous blowhards. Not as bad as Trinity university, but still ******** none the less.

University of the Incarnate Ward Cardnials. My younger brother is a graduate.

They sure have moved up the latter fast.

I received an email from Mr. Hixson (Assistant Commissioner) stating the MW has no plans to start men's soccer at this time.

I doubt SDSU soccer would want to leave the PAC so they have no incentive to get MWC soccer started. The others probably are indifferent

RE: UIW Men's Soccer to the WAC
Good for Incarnate Word's program to join the WAC. They were homeless with the school's move up to the Southland and now they get to play two other Texas conference opponents.

What's more likely to happen is that the Pac takes the MW affiliates not named New Mexico. Pac-12 only has the bare minimum of members required for an autobid (6). The Lobos just reached the Final Four this year and seem quite happy with C-USA.

The question of MW soccer would be worth visiting if Fresno decides to resurrect their program. Or if there is another major realignment involving the Summit or WAC. Until then, no changes to the status quo. 07-coffee3

Wow I have heard of Iowa Wesleyan because I grew up 20 miles from there. But how in the world have you heard of it? I guess a couple of famous football coaches started out there, but no one cares about that unless you grew up there or went there.
