Nothing says "science" more than censorship.

If you cannot prove your made up assertion, you silence your opposition.

If science never proves anything it's pretty bad pseudo science then.

This is the way that people who are not familiar with the nature of science are confused. The person who started this thread has been confused with this very subject many times over. Science never proves anything. It sets out to disprove. It eliminates possibilities. You will never find a scientific proof as you would in math. A theory is the gold standard. A theory has never been disproven.

I personally think the rise of the pseudo intellectuals of today is one of the most dangerous things facing the future of society.

Intelligence is not an IQ, a degree, or the knowledge of disjointed facts but the ability to perceive and negotiate facts in a way that allows you to draw connections and distinctions in the historical, social, mathematical, and useful sense.

We seem to have a generation of people who know a lot of facts but who have zero ability to piece together the mosaic of reality they form.

Tell that to all the "science" folk, including you, who continue to mock, ridicule and, as evidenced by the op, silence those whom you just admitted are doing science.

So global warming is a theory?

Yes, that has NEVER been disproven. It is the gold standard. The best mankind can offer. It's well established settled science. CO2 traps long wave radiation. It's the same reason your car gets warmer than the outside with the windows shut. It's only controversial in right wing circles and watts up with th weather.

Your all over the place Mach.

According to you, science is suppose to try to disprove but... it's settled science.

Reddit itself had no control over the censorship. It's that particular subreddit.

Paul,

Outside of conservative circles there is no controversy. plain and simple. It's a well established never been disproven theory.

Mach, once a theory is proven it's no longer a theory, it then becomes a fact.

I had a feeling this would pop up. From a mod of the subreddit:

Quote:I admit I don't know what to do with this submission as it's an op-ed and not peer reviewed science, but for now we're going to allow it (though maybe it's more appropriate for metareddit or news or something?).
Your comment hit the gist of it. It's not like we're making some special case for banning all climate science deniers despite whatever they may post... we're just treating climate change denial in the same way we treat evolution denial or the anti-vaccination submissions.
I'm sure that there can be articles skeptical of climate change published in reputable peer-reviewed papers and those would still be welcome submissions but this is almost never the case. It's not that we have it out for climate science deniers as much as it is our subreddit reflects the current scientific consensus in the form of only allowing peer-reviewed material from reputable journals, which almost completely excludes climate science denial given the overwhelming agreement in the scientific community on this subject. We've posted about this back when we made the decision to largely no fanfare (though I guess /r/science[1] only had 400,000 subscribers then instead of 4 million).
Comments and feedback in this thread are certainly welcome but please keep it civil.

There ya have it. Try and get it published by a reputable source, and they'll allow it. They have strict standards for that subreddit.

I say subreddit because you guys probably think REDDIT banned climate change denial. That's not how it works. Each subreddit makes its own rules, with exception of a few things that are banned on the entire site (child porn for example).

And for what it's worth, almost no one in the scientific community takes global warming skeptics seriously, so what do you expect? To them, it's like allow someone to post flat earth "science". Nothing is coming from sources they trust.

I am on Reddit all the time and I cannot tell you how many times (it is numerous) I have read comments in /r/politics that are anti-global warming and very "conservative" in nature. The thing about Reddit is - some subreddits are managed by admittedly biased individuals and to be quite honest only the site-wide ones, like politics, seem to be the best for hearing all sides of an argument. One thing of note - it's hard to ban someone for just stating their opinion especially on Reddit. People usually complain incessantly if that does happen, regardless of who it's about... Insistence usually yields transparency.

My personal opinion is that r/politics has a heavy liberal bias. Other than that, what you've said is spot on. You don't get banned from reddit unless they're breaking the law or something. People can get banned from subreddits, but those pages aren't controlled by any sort of executive member of reddit.

Curious, is Al Gore peer reviewed and reputable?

SMN.

We don't have scientific facts. We have scientific laws. Laws are natural phenomena. The moon revolves around the Earth. We have Theories that try to explain natural phenomena. I know it's confusing but it's the way it works. That's the nature of science. You will never find a scientific proof.
