It's possible that the MU AD's mishandling of Tulane in public was a factor. Or it could be totally unrelated. (Brilliant insight, I know.)

Unrelated. Larry Williams wasn't exactly popular in the MU community and the biggest donors to the program. MU had a few issues with athletes over the last few years and he came in a couple years ago with a heavy hand to fix it. (He forced the freshmen and sophs to move into the same dorms as the rest of the students, implemented restrictions on who MU could recruit, declined a very significant donation directed to new athletic dorms, etc.) As a result, his relationship with Buzz started on a bad note and went downhill from there. Fundraising has dropped significantly over the past two years. Consequently, the new President (Fr. P) was forced out after less than two years (replaced on an interim basis by Fr. Wild, our former President). In addition, the Provost hired by Fr. P left and LW (also hired by Fr. P) was probably encouraged to resign. I think most consider this a positive and a way to keep Buzz happy. Interim AD is Bill Cords, who was AD at for 15 years (responsible for MU getting in the BE, hiring Crean, building the Al McGuire Center, etc.) Most think this is a huge positive.

interesting. Good luck, Marquette. Sorry we are no longer playing you guys. Always some great games with much on the line when the Warriors/Bearcats tipped it off.
