I quit reading after that, but it would appear to not support that particular point...

Yes

How? I expect some sort of rotation but reducing somewhere in the neighborhood of 4000 tickets per session would be made up by what?

So you think that a tourney held in Skagway, Alaska would make as much money as one held in MSG?

You completely shat on their "location doesn't make a difference" argument. 04-cheers

Not really. I am just skeptical it will be significantly more money than the conference makes now off of the tourney. Gonna be on ESPN regardless of where it is held. To me, if it can create a big increase in money, move it to NY and keep it there. If not, keep rotating it like it is now and just add NY to the rotation.

My guess is that a rotation might actually be the most lucrative...people might not go to NY EVERY year, but if it was a special deal every few years, it might keep the demand up if you're expecting people to travel.

Although I've been to a couple, I don't have the emotional pull that some are going to have to Greensboro or NY (MSG).

If I were the ACC, I'd bring in some dependable consultants to study and project what arrangement is absolutely going to max out revenue for the conference and ticket demand, which means revenue to the school. $20 seats online for an event that used to be a tougher ticket than the Super Bowl is not a great look. My guess is there is some way to rotate or manage locations to get more out of the event.

That does make a lot of sense. I can't say what would be best either, but it's definitely conceivable some variety might be a way to maximize revenue.

What made the ACC tournament special was that you had to win it to be the ACC Champion and for decades only the champion could go to the NCAA. The 64 team field in the NCAA has diluted the value of that plus the format that forced any team seeded lower than 4 to play four days went a long way to devaluing the tournament because it meant that most teams seeded 5-12 had no hope of winning.

Distance is irrelevant to big wheels at UNC, Duke, NC State, UVa, and Wake because having access to ACC Tournament tickets is tied directly to their annual giving so they already have the money to go where the team goes. I would suspect the same is true at Louisville and Syracuse. ND will always have a crowd in NYC and the trip is not onerous for folks from BC or Pitt.

The question will be what happens with the dog games between low seeded teams - will they be attended or will the ticket holders be at a Broadway show, the Met, or walking in Times Square.

I am not sure whether people realize that New York city is the media capital of the US. When you are trying to promote yourself i.e.- ACC Network, it is best to promote it in front of as many media outlets as possible. New York city has all of the major Networks represented.
By doing a good job of promoting the league and the tournament everyone will make more money.
