Serious question:
has it ever been polite/acceptable to call someone "fat" to their face? I don't think it ever has been in my lifetime.
I don't think I've ever heard the N, R or F words told to someone's face either.
The "R" one happened in this very thread! And I've definitely heard both of the others happen, too. When I was a kid in school in the 80s and 90s, the one starting with "F" was used rather indiscriminately as a generic insult.

What I don't understand about this position is that it somehow implies that trying to dissuade people from using words that would rightfully offend many people is somehow a bad thing or a sign of weakness. Usually when people invoke the "it's all about PC" argument it implies a weakening of America. Is the ability to use words like fat, r*****, f**, etc. without being reprimanded part of what makes this country great or something? If society ever breaks apart, I have my doubts that historians will look back and discuss how it all started with discouraging the use of generic insults.

No I mean polite. Retard is a demeaning word that to families with special needs members it is similar to a racial slur. Lots of intelligent and respectful language that can be used.
That's the problem with society these days. Too many people get offended too easy. That's why we give out participation trophies to everyone. Maybe Warford should get one.
Bro, we don't use terms like n**ger, f**got (or using the word gay derogatorily) or retard here. People don't get offended because they're overly sensitive to this stuff, people get offended because this is offensive.
Bro-You left out r.dn..k, h..nky, cr..ker, etc.
I never knew redneck had any stereotypical connotations. I've met white rednecks, Asian rednecks, black rednecks, rednecks from Colorado, rednecks from Michigan, rednecks from Tennessee.
Honky and cracker I get.
