Cuse Fans Raised $44,444 to Send Over 1400 Houston Kids To Bowl Game
Started out this morning and just took off. Donations of $25, $44, $60, $100...built up the kitty to over $18,000

Kids will get a ticket, Cuse T-shirt and a Hot Dog/Drink to the game.

The Bowl Organizers (Houston Texans) lowered the ticket prices from $50 to $20 for each kid to help the momentum early this afternoon.

All from the genius of "Troy Nunes Is An Absolute Magician" one of the best sports blogs out there.

This was one of those matchups that I wondered if anyone would be there. Would it look like an Eastern Michigan home game?

I gave a shout-out to Sean on Twitter. Fantastic idea and every fan base ought to replicate this.

A Cuse t-shirt! This is obviously an Orange conspiracy to boost your cheering section at the bowl! 03-lmfao

All kidding aside, when the bowl matchups were announced and I saw Syracuse was going to be in the Texas bowl, I immediately thought "that's great for TexanMark!". :)

And of course it's an AWEsome thing you guys are doing for those kids. 04-cheers

Very cool. Rutgers did something like this in the St. Pete's Bowl against UCF a few years back. I donated a ticket for that myself as I could afford a ticket at the time but not all the airfare, car rental, lodging expenses.

Texan, convenient travel for you for once for a bowl as I recall its only around 3 hours between San Antonio and Houston.

How many tickets has UConn sold for their bowl game?

Oh, my bad. I forgot UConn adopted the Ivy League philosophy and forgoes the football postseason.

So you really think UConn would sell out their allotment: 2 days after Christmas, a 6-6 team and with air fare averaging $600.

UConn fans should understand the huge disadvantage of not being 6-8 hours away by car to a bowl game. Obviously you are just butt hurt over no bowl.

Pretty soon, you guys will have run out of all the kids in Houston and have to start scouring over here in Louisiana for more kids to send to that game.

I think at some point you can only invite so many kids...probably have reached that.

If only Syracuse could bring in the cash like that when they're raising funds for facility upgrades. 05-stirthepot

Yes. Sometimes a fundraiser like this can become 'too successful', can grow out of control and then there can be a crash-landing mess that mars the goodwill originally generated. Like when there's a hurricane and the Red Cross asks for bread and then they get 20 truckloads when they can only handle 5. You end up with spoiled bread rotting on docks and bad publicity.

The organizers need an exit strategy, declare victory and cap the donations accepted, or else have another outlet for channeling additional money generated to a cause any donor would agree to. There is a danger in not having a contingency plan for wild success ....

This was a great idea and I tip my hat to those responsible for its planning and execution.
