man, I've got a friend who put $900 to win $400 on a hockey game last week. There's gambling addicts abound in this world, and I know a whole bunch of them.

But yes, college hoops can be maddening. I had Ole Miss -3.5 against Penn State a few weeks ago. They missed a ton of FTs down the stretch yet had a 5 point lead with about :04 to go. PSU missed the shot and the ball got fumbled out of bounds with :00.3 left. Refs went to possession arrow b/c they couldn't determine who touched it last. PSU ball. Lob to rim, slam dunk, Rebels win by 3. I lose. Lots of cuss words.

I know a guy who lost $1000 betting he could chip into a trash can before his partner. This was BEFORE they ever teed off.

I think a line is set with the objective of getting even betting (ie 50-50) for both teams because Vegas makes their money on a commission (ie, vig). Therefore, the spread is an indicator of the betting public's prediction. Am I wrong?

Actually they win the greatest percentage of their revenue by far from traditional casino gambling. Odds much better for the house. Just the Vig on sports gambling.
