OT: 30 For 30: The Youngstown Boys
Did anyone see this one yet? Wow! What an enlightening, incredible documentary about the trials and tribulations of Maurice Clarett, which I was not very fond of during his time at Ohio State, but after seeing this and learning even more about his side of the story and what he was subjected to, I owe the man an apology, and this only served to further my disdain for "THE Ohio Stink University"...I hope Clemson takes them "down through there" in the Orange Bowl on January 3....

Haven't seen it yet, but heard that the same directors that did The Two Escobars did this one, which means it has to be great.

I saw it as well. it certainly didn't paint ohio state in a very good light. it was a great doc though. I haven't seen many 30 for 30's that I didn't like.

I kind of had forgotten what a beast he was on the football field after all the stuff that happened to him off of it.

I used to think that Clarett was a bit on the arrogant side, but I was clearly mistaken about that. Up until I'd seen that documentary last night, I'd only gotten one side of the story, & for the most part, ran with it. Listening to Clarett convey his side for the very first time, then hearing his Mother, she was incredible, talk about a profile of strength and unconditional love?

And Jim Tressel...Didn't have much for him, either, but after seeing this and getting his version of events, came to an entirely different conclusion. Owe him one, too. As for that guy that was AD at the time in the documentary? Glad I can't recall his name.

What a Stranzo!!! There were a couple of other high profile incidents related to that damn school that stick out in my mind as well, one involving a teacher who reported grade fixing of some kind for football players to the administration, and they turned around and fired her. Then there was something involving Robert Smith ( the ESPN analyst and former NFL star RB with the Minnesota Vikings), who used to play his college ball there, and how the coaching staff tried to pressure him into neglecting his academics and focus solely on football, he pretty much told them to go to hell. I hope Clemson beats the brakes off of them on 1/3.

The Zimbalist Brothers. Wonder if they're related to Efrem? They do great work.

Good stuff.

Man, it's worrisome to see how beat up a RB can be beat up as a young freshman.

He dealt with a shoulder, knee, etc....

He was a star in the UFL, just a bit too aged by then.

RE: OT: 30 For 30: The Youngstown Boys
watching this made me hate the machine that is CFB. They lauded this kid all during their title run but then kicked him to the curb. They lied to him about being able to make his friend's funeral and threw him under the bus.

CFB is run by a bunch of rich white men that are closed minded and treat these kids like property. They flock to inner cities after the most talented kids and once they have used them up they turn their backs on them.

The suspension was unwarrated and way to harsh. Demanding he hold a 3.5 with now academic help and completely cut off from his teammates was done to ensure he could never return to the field.

And Sports Illustrated can go to hell too. That picture of him tossing the OSU jersey was created by them. He didn't do that on his own. Even the radio host admited that once he heard in the interview that he would be interested in testing the draft waters he knew he could run with it.

I don't care that they get a scholarship. These players are used as nothing more than commodities. The clothing they are given says it all. "Property of _______ Athletics." Because that is how they are treated. Fact is reguler students that get scholarships for other reasons than sports do not have the same restrictions that athletes do. They can have jobs, entertain professional careers, and there are no stupid violations for using a school water hose, getting creme cheese with your bagel (yup that's one), getting a ride from a faculty member when it is pissing down the rain, or capitalizing off of your own name.

This precisely why we do not have a playoff. THE MONEY. Old rich dudes living off of and through 18-22 year old kids.

"Getting creme cheese with your bagel?!" 03-lmfao Really?! Really!

You know what, I wouldn't be surprised if that were true, given some of the most outrageous and ridiculously asinine laws in some of these state constitutions (esp. Alabama's!)...??? If an inmate can sue a state because he wanted smooth peanut butter on his sandwiches and the institution provided him only with chunky, and win the case in court...?!

This is the NCAA we're talking about, probably got some of their "ideas" from these insane state laws.

The 30 for 30 wasn't MoC's side or tOSU's side. It was ESPN's twist to the saga. Today MoC loves Ohio State and they love him and Tressel. Don't let eSECpn fool ya. If that network can drag a school outside of the SEC down they will.

I know for a fact that the car deal on the QB from a couple of years ago was bogus. The NCAA had no idea what to look for.

i love the 30 for 30s. that one was excellent and did change some of my perceptions of clarrett.

i'm a long time buckeye hater due to some co-workers that were buckeye lovers.

for the ones trying to act like osu is big meanie cheaters.....phil niekro please.....sec schools cheat more in a week than osu does in a month.

not that osu isn't cheating. i'm sure they are but nobody does it like football in the south.

***disclaimer: uk hoops cheats on par with sec football.
