The big 12 will do whatever it can to make the most money and if that means adding a team that brings in the #3 market in the country I'm sure they will bite the bullet and invite the best football program in illinois despite the directional name and just decent fan base. Niu just brought in a new ad this fall who has specialized in fundraising, capitol investment projects ex. Stadium renovation and expansion, and brand recognition and growing. A big 12 project it would be but that is why they got this guy.you might be surprised when it happens but I won't be.

The Big 12 will never ever take NIU. That is just fantasy talk.

.....yeah wouldn't start painting any B12 logos on that field in DeKalb just yet...

Though it would please me to no end to ask my UT friends if they had their tickets to the NIU game after all their "were gonna replace you all with Notre Dame, LSU, Florida State and Clemson" talk.

You can build a 300ft statue of Bevo outside of your stadium but NIU will not be in the Power 5 in the next 50 years. I'm not going to go look at the numbers but I can think of 3 teams off the top of my head that probably draw better ratings in Chicago than NIU

You really cant count South Carolina or Louisville when looking at UCF's ratings. Those are both either P5 programs or about to be P5 programs, and more people would watch out of curiosity.

That means it comes down to whether or not UCF can maintain the rest of its rankings in a year where they are unranked.

There is no way NIU will go from MAC to P5, thats like jumping from elementary school to college. If NIU is seeking to move up in the college football world they should be thinking AAC 1st. There has not been a team outside of MWC or x-BE to go to an AQ conference.

To speak to ratings, Chicago is a show-me city when it comes to sports, except the cubs. Chicago does not care about the Illini or NU when they are below .500 and losing. Ratings would be reflected by success on the field and appeal of a match-up. You will notice NIU on ESPN drew very well in Chicago the last 2 seasons when NIU was doing well, and drew the highest rating in the Orange Bowl when NIU was there in 2012. The only thing NIU would bring to start would be TV sets if a network and subscriptions were the end-goal.

As for your statement in bold, thats comparing apples to oranges. Do you really think NIU would draw better ratings than some of the B10 or ND teams in the area playing a MAC school? Those stats would have to be relative to appealing match-ups, such as the Iowa/Wisconsin/Purdue games on ESPN2 in the recent OOC schedule. Ratings would have to be judged on potential rather than current MAC matchups.

Most of the G5 have played P5 programs this year, maybe apples to oranges, but to 'throw out' the best teams and keep the crappy schools is just dumb. OF COURSE more people would watch UCF play a bigger name school. Same argument could be made for UCF in the B12. If they played Texas instead of Temple on a weekly basis they see increased numbers.

Look at South Carolina, they scored a 2.2 against UCF, but only a 1.3 against the Florida Gators.

The Ville tied their 1.5 with UCF with only Kentucky for the entire season.

Yeah UCF had an amazing season, we'll have to see what the numbers are next year... but I bet they are be around the mid point of the B12 for the third straight year...

UCF was unranked or barely in the top 25 for much of the season. It hardly qualified as magical until the BCS bowl was locked up at the end of the season. Dismissing early to mid season game ratings for that reason only makes sense if you're grasping at straws.
