Don't think it was the DC, I'm guessing from an online article, something mentioned about the special teams coach. Whoever FAU's Defensive Coordinator is, he's a (bleeping) beast, his defense was one of the most determined and consistently physical units I'd seen all season long. There was absolutely no quit in them and they didn't give up real estate like the Homestead Act. I'll ask my good friend "Owl Family" sometime today about which other coach, if any, went down in flames with Pelini at FAU.

Naa... They hired somebody from Arkansas.

The defensive coordinator was busted for drug use wasn't he?

I have know idea who McGee might look at, but I have spent time with Nix many times over the years at clinics & the like. I think he's the type of guy that might be able to turn our defensive unit around. He's not just well-liked. He just happens to be pretty good at calling a game & we haven't had that in awhile. One other guy comes to mind. George Barlow, who coaches dbs at Vandy, has dc experience. I doubt he leaves Vandy for UAB, even for our coordinator's job, but I like him as well.

With regards to compensation, see below:

Also according to the report from responding schools, MTSU defensive coordinator Tyrone Nix was the second-highest paid assistant in Conference USA with a salary of $202,925 that included a base pay of $200,000 and other pay of $2,925. He also has a bonus maximum of $12,500.
The highest-paid assistant in C-USA was UAB defensive coordinator Reggie Johnson, who had a base salary of $250,000 that also included other pay of $1,200 and no bonus potential.

I'd have a guygasm if they hired Nix. He'd be instant credibility on defense and he'd help recruiting overnight.

With that as a possibility, it would take real courage for McGee to hire him.

Has anyone thought about Woodrow Lowe who coached LBs at UAB until run off by Wayne Bolt after they differed on defensive ideas? He is now FBHC at Central HS of Phenix City(AL).

Guess not. Well that's what happens when they recruit players from other high schools to come to their school. How else would Hoover be so good? Nevermind. We don't need a "cheater".

Absolutely ...I wanted Reggie Johnson to succeed more than you can imagine, upon meeting him at one of the public "Caravans", I was immediately impressed. I'm very sorry that it didn't work out for him should these reports of a house cleaning in the defensive staff happen to be true.

He was one of the nicest coaches I've ever met.
Yep - Had that enthusiasm I liked. Wish them all well.
