My problem with Santa Claus…
My wife and I don’t do the whole Kris Kringle charade, neither of us grew up in
a family that did, so it was much more natural to not participate in the secular
fabrication than succumb to the biggest farce that adults perpetrate on children.

OK, that was a bit hyperbolic, I really don’t have a problem with others playing
the Santa Claus game, my beef is not so much with the idea that I’m socially
required to perpetuate the deception, but rather that I ask my seven-year-old son
to keep to himself the truth about this concocted tradition… and he keeps his
mouth shut not necessarily for the sake of the children that believe, but untimely
for those kids parents that so much enjoy the holiday ruse.

Yes, I’m aware that there are countless bits of truth in which (for various reasons)
we as adults withhold from children, so one more, seemingly harmless hoax shouldn’t
be that big of a deal. But I so much loath the paradox created by choosing to not to
lie to my son about Santa, while compelling my son to lie about Santa to others.

Even more bewildering is the label of being “mean parents” for not overtly facilitating the theatrics.

True, typically I’m the weird guy because I lack tattoos and piercings.

Not alone bro, I grew up with my strict Christian grandparents, I wasn't allowed to believe in Santa, Easter Bunny, or anything of the sort. I kinda ruined other kids days around Christmas though...

Most people are, Stan. It's our perception of them that's warped, due to self-interest and point of view.

I don't think our kids had too much trouble, as they were homeschooled. Many of our peers don't do Santa either. Kind of interesting that the Santa backlash seemed to start w/ Gen X. My impression anyway.

I'll bet you this guy doesn't believe in Santa Clause.
