Aaaaaand I thought this was going to be a pleasant surprise. Nope. GT still doesn't take football seriously.

It'll happen in another year if nothing changes.

I bet the interview ended something like this: "Uhh, those credentials are, ummmm, impeccable...yeah, yeah, that's the word. I'm not sure GATech can afford such genius. We may just have to stick with what we got until we can afford someone of your ... caliber."

No chance in hell will they get rid of him before next year. He'll get one more year in no small part because the buyout will drop another $2.1 million or more. But I suspect the attendance implosion that happened after the VT false start parade game -- the last game I went to and a game that still pisses me off immensely -- will catch up with him next year. It nothing changes, it will cost the GTAA more in empty seats than it does to keep Johnson. That is what sealed Gailey's fate.
My prediction ... and feel free to save this for posterity as I feel pretty good about it ... PJ beats up on cupcakes next year and either:
A) loses to everybody out of UGAg, Clemson, Miami, VT
B) picks one of the above off (excluding UGAg) but loses one he shouldn't
He is fired within 48 hours after they go to Athens and play flat, uninspired, and unimaginative football to collect a Gailey-tieing 6th straight loss to UGAg. Ted Roof is named interim head coach. They hire somebody who does not inspire confidence as the great head coaches stay far away from GT's academic restrictions which place it in a deep hole every year against UGAg, Clemson, VT, and Miami. We arrive right back where we started by 2020. Rinse, lather, repeat.

I look at Northwestern, Duke, Stanford and Vanderbilt and see no reason unless the administration doesn't want to compete for them not to be one of the stronger ACC Programs.

I think the nature of GT's academic restrictions is much different. The biggest issue, IMO, is lack of diversity. Every football player can't major in engineering.

1) All of the above offer unlimited exemptions for football players. GT does not.
2) All of the above have bullsh*t liberal arts majors to hide players in. GT does not.
3) None of the above require calculus regardless of major. GT does.
4) All of the above recruit nationally. GT does not.
5) All of the above will allow a player to enter with NCAA minimum academic standing. GT will not.
6) All four of the former have a much higher cash flow into their athletic program than GT does ... NW through huge B1G money, Vandy through huge SEC money, Stanford and Duke through big alumni giving.
Relevant:
Georgia Tech adds patsy bullsh*t major for athletes ... pretty much the first acknowledgement from The Hill that they cannot compete against the top of the ACC, much less the retards from Athens, anymore when they start each year in a deep self-inflicted hole.

GT could be a mini-USC or mini-Miami if they wanted. It's a dadgum shame.
