Quintessential Elvis Presley...
the Trilogy, from 1973
Why are you posting this, K2? Because he was awesome.
The segment from 2:15 to the 3:00 min mark was prescient. The whole deal takes less than 5 minutes.
Tiger 46, IMO, this was his last great perfomance 4 years before the day. Drugs were already ravaging him, but he brought it this night.

RE: Quintessential Elvis Presley...
the aloha trilogy was one of my faves indeed.
Also a huge fan of unchained melody from the final concert

one of my 3 favorite EP songs along with "Suspicious Minds" and "My Way"
The King probably wouldn't be allowed to perform Trilogy if he were alive today. Liberals and the PC police would be outraged.

An American Trilogy is still my favorite Elvis song....even though it's technically not his. The end gives me chills every. single. time.

Elvis fan or not everyone should appreciate the passion Elvis put into his work. This clip is a prime example of it. Thanks for posting.

My favorite would be "If I Can Dream" from the 68 concert. Don't think he ever looked or sounded better. Not a Celine Dion fan, but that video they made with her and Elvis was well done.

my favorite full video is the "in the round" with the boys.
HBO aired it under the title "One Night with You"
The different versions are now available on the 68 comeback special box set. A definite must haave for elvis fans

Oh, I know. There are some songs that I think of as "Elvis songs" before anyone else, though. This isn't isn't one of them, although the arrangement of the three songs was a relatively new one at the time of his performance.

RE: Quintessential Elvis Presley...
Thanks for posting k2. Definitely the highlight of the Aloha show imho. While Elvis looked great and sang great during the Satellite show, I always thought it was a bit of an overall lackluster performance stagewise from E. No doubt there were some really strong moments like the clip you posted of The Trilogy but alot of the energy seemed to be already waning by early 73. Still the King though. Elvis said Roy Orbison was the best singer but I don't think anybody could ever "sell" a song like Elvis Presley could. Made no difference in his case whether or not he wrote it . Dude could sing the phone book and it would be great.

American Trilogy is fantastic.
Some of the hip hop vile music is revered today, but as you said, there would be a hue and cry about the Trilogy. Oh my.

By most accounts that I have read and heard, he was a progressively sad and lonely man. His greatest sense of happiness came on the stage.
I also loved his gospel stuff - it really was amazing.

Elvis and Coca-a-Cola are the two most recognized names world wide. But I guess I am old school when it comes to Elvis and prefer the young Elvis recordings when he was considered to be part of the lewd and lascivious rock and roll scene when Bill Black and Scotty Moore were the band. And if you have not seen this Tupelo's Own Elvis Presley DVD, then you should get it right away. It has Elvis doing "Long Tall Sally." It is a 1956 Elvis concert with sound. As rare as it gets.

Would love to get that for my sister, who has to be the biggest Elvis fan ever. But all I could find was PAL, not NTSC. I know some DVD players these days play both, but I'm not willing to take that chance (did that once before, never again).

Try contacting Memphis Recording Service. They are the ones who did the DVD. Region 1 is NTSC for North America and Region 0 is formatted to play worldwide.

I'll have to send them an email about it. Looks like it's only available to customers outside the US. EP Enterprises must be involved...
