Support of the Program
After the game I was over at CVP and a argument broke out on the small crowd for Saturday and while I agree with the disappointment, I cannot say that I am surprised. We have not had strong crowds all year outside of the students and now that all tickets had to be paid for you see what we are left with, under 4,700 fans in an 11,000 seat stadium. We have a strong program that has won for 3 years and the reality is that even on campus there is very little interest in Towson Sports. Our basketball team is preseason #1 in the CAA but we cannot even sell out our own brand new Arena for the opening game. Our football team has been top 10 all season long and even our students won't fork over a $10 bill to see a fantastic team on the field with great running backs who could play in the NFL. My point that was made last night with my guys is that I think that the total lack of attention to developing the sports at Towson for the better part of the last 20 years has killed any chance the program has for sustained success.
If Rob indeed leaves for UCONN are we going to step it up and get a coach who is going to be committed to winning, or are we going to go the route of hiring someone who is just glad to have a head coaching job. If all we can sell is 4,700 tickets to a playoff game how are we going to afford to pay a top notch coach? Same goes for Skerry when he leaves. I do not get the feeling from this Administration that she cares too much about athletics. If so we would have seen some real advertising for the Fordham game. If I am not mistaken this President was not on the job yet for the last playoff game in 2011 against Lehigh, which was a sellout.
I am supporting this team and all of the programs as I always have, with a big annual check ($5,000) and will also make a nice year end tax avoidance gift. I challenge everyone who reads this to make a pledge to the Tiger Club today.

RE: Support of the Program
I came back this weekend and sat in my regular season seats, and bouth another 9 for friends around Baltimore. The most common excuse for people telling me they do not want to come to the games are "I want to watch games on TV" or "I am going to the Maryland, Navy game". It's a challenge to overcome the years of non promotion and non achievement but we have to realize its not going to happen overnight. What I cannot understand is that we are getting far more coverage in the local media this year than ever before but our crowds are not as good across the board. Makes no sense.

The Baltimore Sun has covered us more than they ever had before, going back to the old Evening Sun days. I guess nobody reads the Sun anymore. Until the playoff game, we have been getting 7,000+ crowds. If the students showed up for that game, it would have been close to a sell out. But I guess they didn't want to fork over any money (or leave the parking lot).

RE: Support of the Program
Well I was there on Saturday and really enjoyed it. Only my 2nd Towson football game ever. I'm an '09 grad. I've been following the team on TV and online for the last 3 seasons. I've decided to buy 2 season tickets for 2014. Maybe 3.

Cool. That was a rough era from 2006-09. Glad to see some alums have jumped back on board with the program.
