Liberty Bowl: Official Watch Party Announcement Thread
Please restrict posts in this thread to announcing watch parties only so that it makes for an easy reference without paging through lots of off-topic comments. That said, I will occasionally update this original post to include parties that people list below or those sent out by the Alumni Association.

DFW's party is firmly in D and is nowhere near FW. I've been trying to get a friend to take on FW.

As for Houston, that could well be the biggest watch party in Rice history.

RE: Liberty Bowl: Official Watch Party Announcement Thread
By the way, Rice Public Affairs is officially asking Rice fans at the watch parties and other events to share their photos and (especially) videos from the events in progress.
Public Affairs has a team that will be collecting the inputs in real time and making them available as broadly as possible.

Here are the input instructions:
Quote:Watch party participants can upload video and pictures to Instagram, Twitter, Facebook or Google+ with #RiceFight

The Public Affairs staff will then be able to find it and retweet it and/or add it to their Storify project:
http://storify.com/riceuniversity/ricefight

In addition, any tweets tagged with #RiceFight will show up on Rice's Liberty Bowl Central page here:
http://news.rice.edu/55th-autozone-liber...l-central/

I just tried this myself and it works!

How cool. And "making them (Rice watch party inputs) available as broadly as possible." That's good. Do we have a London watch party? I read a post asking that question. It isn't too late to send a few emails. Tokyo? Sydney? Singapore? Delhi? Istanbul? Paris? I know we've Rice alums in Paris-- and I mean Paris, France, George.

RE: Liberty Bowl: Official Watch Party Announcement Thread
I assume the game will be about 3 hours long. If so, what are the maximum number of watch parties that one person could physically attend if he or she was interested in breaking the Rice record for number of bowl game watch parties attended during one game? Could a Houston-Austin-Dallas triple be possible? Seems too far, if I recall (barring a weather delay in the game, of course). I could do LA-San Diego, but that's only two. Hmm… No chance of a San Antonio party? Maybe Houston-Austin-San Antonio is the way to make three; unless Orange County Owl gets motivated in the OC, then there's a SoCal trinity for the taking...

The Atlanta party was pretty well attended at the same location for the C-Usa Championship game. Will be driving to Memphis myself, but for anyone in Atlanta that can't, it's well worth going to watch at Taco mac with fellow Rice alums!

BUMP! Reminder to watch party hosts and attendees: please post (especially videos) frequently during the game using #RiceFight. Rice Public Affairs will be following it, and ESPN is on the alert as well. It would be really cool to have some watch party video make onto the TV broadcast!

RE: Liberty Bowl: Official Watch Party Announcement Thread
Speaking of video, I humbly suggest that video of people around the country singing the attached little jingle just might catch ESPN's eye. While I realize I can be fairly accused of self-aggrandizement, my suggestion is based on some real consideration.
- First, video clips of fan groups singing a common song are shouting a common cheer are tailor-made for splicing together into a wrap-around highlight clip.
- Second, the fact that the suggested jingle is a well-known holiday tune rather than a Rice-specific melody will probably make it more appealing to ESPN. I suspect ESPN's thinking would be that the audience will recognize the tune and think "Gee, isn't that neat?", whereas the recognition of any Rice-specific tune is essentially non-existent.
-Third, "Deck the Halls" is quite frankly an easier tune than any of Rice's songs, and there are almost certainly more Rice fans who can successfully carry the tune and meter of "Deck the Halls" than who can carry the fight song or alma mater.

To maximize the chance of ESPN picking it up, each site should probably post their videos before the game if possible, and no later than midway through the first quarter.

Quote:A New Year's jingle for the Rice Owls
To the tune of "Deck the halls"

Fast away the season passes,
Fa la la la la, la let's go Rice!

Hail the Owls, ye lads and lasses!
Fa la la la la, la let's go Rice!

Celebrate their season glorious,
Fa la la, la la la, let's go Rice!

Cheer them to their bowl victorious!
Fa la la la la, la LET'S GO RICE!
