I loved Antonio. But saying he was "absolutely one of the best guards in the country" means I stop conversing with you about bball because you have no clue what you're talking about. I won't bother responding to anything else you post.
Your a fool if you don't think Antonio was one of the best in the country in hi senior season. He messed around and got a triple-double.
Clearly. Why he was never named an All-American in four seasons at Memphis and went undrafted, only a fool would know.
In reality, he was a great glue guy, efficient college player and had a high bball IQ. Also a great teammate and a fan favorite. Not one of the best players in the country, though.
Who cares if he got drafted, we're talking about college players.
There are only two guards named to the All-American first team each season, does that mean there are only two elite guards?

There are more than two guards. There is first, second and third team plus honorable mention. If you count PGs and SGs in that list, there are 10-12 guards.

I think if we had one more big that was contributing like Shaq and A Nichols, the front court would be considered Top 10. My guess it's the lack of a third (what I would call a ) big-time contributor that's keeping them from getting more pub.
If the guards can hold their own against the big boys, like they did against OK St, I think Shaq and an emerging A Nichols will be the ones who make the big difference and put us over the top. Shaq is playing like an All-American right now. Can he keep it up? We'll see. Nichols will be an All-American before he leaves Memphis. Count on that. None of our guards are All-American caliber. They are good (at times), but not elite.
Sadly, part of our fanbase is comprised of psychos who blow everything out of proportion and go into hysterics whenever anything happens. Now apparently, it is a sure thing that Nichols will be an All American. Other psychos are writing off Iverson and hoping that he transfers after a grand total of 6 games.

Held their own? The guards played amazing. Against Oklahoma State, the guards scored 45 points and the bigs scored 26 points.

If you define "amazing" game by points scored, then Phil Forte was the best player on the floor. Led all scorers with 19. Shaq, BTW, led Memphis with 17 and 8. I forget who was named tournament MVP and who was on the All-Tournament team. You may need to remind me.
I'd say the one who is blowing things out of proportion is the one who goes HAM if anyone insinuates the 4 Kings aren't the best there ever was.

I'm glad you mentioned that. This will give everyone another opportunity to make fun of you. Here is the list of AA guards that played on Final Four teams for the last 10 years.
2004
Duke - Chris Duhon (3rd)
2005
North Carolina - Raymond Felton (3rd)
Illinois - Dee Brown (2nd)
Illinois - Deron Williams (2nd)
2006

2008
Memphis - Rose (3rd)
UCLA - Collison (3rd)

I'm not sure of your point. Did I say anywhere Memphis couldn't go to the Final Four with this team? Or that you couldn't make a Final Four without at least one All-American guard or projected first round pick (which, BTW, you conveniently did not include in your list)?
I never said Memphis doesn't have good guards. I said they where not "elite" IMO. At that point, another poster challenged me on calling them "elite". He/she did not challenge me specifically on calling them Top 10 as a unit.
Maybe if you paid closer attention to the discussion instead of desperately wanting to trap, bait or make fun of someone, you'd have known that.
That's it from me.

I thought Geron showed glimpses of being really special, but he's come back to Earth a little bit this season. He's still good, but he's too erratic and doesn't score well enough to be considered one of the best 10 guards in the country.
I can’t think of a collection of guards on any team that brings as much as ours and they’re seniors to boot. One was conference player of the year and two were sixth man of the year. The other is just as passionate and mentioned by pro scouts as one of the best on-ball defenders in college.
I think most of these media hacks watched our bad performance against OK ST at their place, while ignoring the Old Spice championship game altogether. You seem to be buying into this too.
It’s early and I think our guard squad will prove you and the hacks wrong.

Hey, that's fair of you. I'm glad you can be civil and agree to disagree with me.
And, for the record, I am not trying to belittle the Memphis back court. I think they are good. I just said I agree with Miles Simon.
If Memphis is to advance in March, everyone will have to play well. I just think it will be the front court that can really take them far.

These idiotic articles mattered when perception was critical to our getting a decent spot in the tourney. Now, our schedule/body of work will speak for itself-one way or another. Therefore, Blow me Miles.

A good frontcourt is what has been lacking in the Pastner era. I think it will take a balance of front & backcourt play for us to be successful this season. It will force opponents to play real defense and not cheat like in the past.
Finally having good frontcourt players will open up many options that haven’t been available in recent seasons.

You said they were good AT TIMES. I challenged you to watch the old spice games again and then name ten better backcourts. Btw, Joe was great in all three games.
