"This has been a great fan base ever since 1973."

Since at least 1957, when the city was shutdown to watch the Tigers play in the NIT championship on black and white TV. Probably even before then.

Fair or not, accurate or not; it is the perception held by the national media. We are considered a nutty fan base and based on my time here it is difficult to disagree.

The fan base here alone is one of the main reasons if not the number one reason why this is one of the best jobs in the country. I don't buy into that puke people say about us being a nutty fan base. Plain and simple, it's some people out there that take a good thing and say it isn't and other jerks fall in line. This has been a great fan base ever since 1973.
i respectfully disagree.

It does not matter what we think. The perception exists that we are an unreasonable fan base. The perception will, to some degree, harm recruitment of our next basketball coach. Perception changes at a glacial pace, but efforts to promote rational behavior will help move the needle.

Don't all the great programs have rabid fans with very high expectations? I think that's one of the things that any good coach would expect to encounter when he takes on the challenge of an elite program.

The AAC has 4 in the top 25: Louisville, Memphis, UCONN, and Temple. You could also argue that Cincinnati should displace some of the others he listed.

I think some of those are a stretch. Except for last year, why Wichita State? Hasn't UNLV been on the outside looking in for years? Most of them are OK by me, though.

I can attest to the fan base being great back to at least 1952, in my memory. And we were selling out the MSC, when it was built, with as much as a 10 year wait list for season tickets,
