Big Twelve expansion idea
The Big Twelve does not have any candidates that bring twenty million a year.

Simple solution add four schools and give each a half share of revenue until the current TV contract runs out .

A school like UCF or New Mexico will gain value in the eight years left on the contract. A ten year transition is even fine vs staying in a G5 conference for the new members .

RE: Big Twelve expansion idea
-while i do agree with you that schools particularly large land grants can be great long term adds as a building project. however to add 4 of them at once would water down the quality of the league too quickly.

-second, to have that much of an unequal revenue sharing model is just asking for resentment and a lot of internal disputes.

-third to add 4 programs like that will discredit the strength of the league for some time. In this situation it is better to be small with high quality schools than to be large with medium quality schools.

from a "building project perspective" I think their options are best with

1. CSU
2. New Mexcio
3. UCF
4. BYU (not really a building project)
5. USF
6. Cincy
7. Houston
8. rice
9. Wyoming
10. Utah state

*if you add wyo csu byu & NM then you have to add Air Force

I could see BYU, Cincinnati, and maybe USF and UCF if the b12 wants to get into Florida and they can't get FSU. The rest of the teams are not going to happen, or if they do it's because Texas and OU has left.

This list to the Big 12 makes sense as replacements, not additions. For example, lose Oklahoma, add CSU. Lose Texas, add New Mexico. Lose Kansas, add BYU. If done in that way, those additions make sensible adds next to the lower teams of the Big 12. A conference of Colorado State, Kansas State, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, New Mexico, Wyoming, Air Force, Texas Tech, BYU, Baylor, and TCU makes more sense than Colorado State and Texas in the same conference.

I think mostly that happens because Big 12 fans don't want ECU fans on their message boards. COGS

And the SEC considered adding both A&M and Houston in the early 90's.

It's a different world now.

RE: Big Twelve expansion idea
I thought I read that Maryland and Rutgers do not start out with a full share of revenue .

the argument against adding schools is none of the schools are worth sharing twenty million.

So take the best four and give them half shares their value will increase .

A half share would still be a big increase to any G5 school and a full share would come later . The conference gets four new markets for the cost of two and a championship game .

Arkansas wanted Rice to leave the SWC to the SEC with them in 1989! What a mistake to believe tu and TAMU and their assurances that Rice would be better off remaining with them in the SWC.
