They may be a little TOO inspired by the St Louis Cardinals jerseys...

I hope they don't look like they are just silk screened on (which is how it looks in the photos). No matter whether it has been Victory, Majestic, or Nike the jerseys have always been MLB type with twill numbers, letters, and insignias sewn on.

Done right the Owls and bat will just jump out. FWIW I have always liked Tulane's take on the Cardinal jersey.

I like them. Especially as an alternate and not replacing the classic Rice unis.

I've always wanted us to get a jersey that just says "Owls". I would've liked it on the blue alternate.

But "Rice Owls"? I didn't see that coming, especially not on a knock-off of the Cardinals' uni.

You don't see the school name and the mascot name featured together on the same uniform much. In that regard, it is at least slightly original. I just don't know whether I like it or not.

I'm not sure you can ever be TOO inspired by the Cardinals. But I agree that this is alright as a special occasion jersey, not necessarily as a replacement or regular look.

Also, I hope the bat looks more like a bat than what I could glean from the one link I checked. Agree with Tiki's comment.

That's not really what I'm used to when someone uses Owls to cover both breasts. Not to mention that it's probably the only realistic image of an owl used on a sports uniform at Rice (as opposed to a stylized image). I would probably like a stylized image more... I'm not a big fan of this uni.

Totally agree on the Tulane jerseys. Those are simply great.

On Rice's, I think you just have to have "Rice" on the front. I get that it's a shorter name than "Tulane" or"St. Louis", but I would rather just have the school name on the jersey.

The owls could use a little work, IMO. Better artistry, I guess. St. Louis' Cardinals and Tulane's Pelicans look better.

Agree - having a jersey with "Owls" for home games and one with "Rice" for road games would be sweet!

I think I'm going to give the OG the benefit of the doubt. I think they have potential to be nice.

Agree - a "stylistic" owl would have looked better than the one shown.

I like it. I think it would look better with just one owl on the wearer's left side. Also, could the bat be a different color (college bats aren't yellow and the color reminds me too much of a color preferred by a former Rice employee who cleaned house on dozens of (now) former Rice employees).

+1, and remember, these are just alternate unis; our existing uniform set will continue to be used for most games.

RE: New Alternate Uniform for Baseball
I don't particularly care for the look of the new uniforms for the reasons mentioned by others. They would be ok for a little league team as many little league teams take names/looks from MLB (and now some college) teams. But, not for college players.

How does this change fit within the branding standards of the Athletics department (or the University as a whole, for that matter)? To me, this uniform is very different from the other sports (unless, they, too, will be changing their image -- e.g., two owls perched on a goal post for football, two owls perched on a net for tennis, etc.).

Again, it's simply an alternate uniform; not a replacement for what we have used in the recent past (several of which-- most notably the home pinstripe uni-- are modelled after MLB jerseys).

I think it is more something Adidas is doing and it was offered to us. They have done similar things for other schools.
