It's embarrassing really. If this board had threads titled, "can't spell sux without x", "Mack is a bald headed douche", "errrrr they are scared", etc, I would bow out. As it is all x boards have the same drivel. Their hatred of Mick is especially entertaining to me, makes me like him all the more.

I really think the series might end after tomorrow. UC isn't going back to home/home and my bet is x won't agree since their fans can't drive 10 miles south. Love to end it going 3/4. I think SK goes off and gets 27ish in an efficient manner.

RE: Crosstown Classic Pregame Thread
The shootout used to be a bigger deal because UC football was garbage and this game was a huge "thing" on the schedule for college sports fans in town. UC got better in football and the shootout started to matter less.

Give things a few years in the AAC (with games against powerhouses like Tulane, SMU and ECU) and you'll see interest in the D-1.5 quality start to wane and the interest in basketball start to tick up. The shootout will seem like a bigger deal then.

The A10 is better than the Big East this year. That's not a hard argument to make. Nova is the only team in the Big East that's won any games of note.

From the early 90s through about 2004, UC was always highly ranked, and Xavier was often viewed as an emerging program. That creates a lot of interest both locally and nationally. That is not the case for either program anymore. I think that has more to do with it than anything.

I get that UC's football program is successful now, but I don't see why that has to take away from basketball. Oklahoma State, Michigan, Florida State, Florida, Oregon, Iowa, Missouri and even Ole Miss now are all "football schools." Their attendance and enthusiasm for basketball has been great this year.

I don't think the December date has that much to do with it either. It was played in December most of the time before the rivalry lost its luster. It just isn't as big or as intriguing anymore. I think it's still a good game. It garners more attention than the majority of OOC games that each team plays, but it's not a national spotlight game anymore. Most people tomorrow will be watching Kansas v New Mexico.

They are nothing but pure hate. I can never wrap my head around their infatuation with UC. Just be happy with what your school has done. Do not worry about UC. Instead they hang on every UC achievement and wait lurking for something that remotely resembles a setback and jump all over it. They are the bizarro world of fan bases.

I still say the only reason folks freak abut the fight is that Yancey connected. Textbook, compact punch. Ding! No unringing that bell

Media and fans are used to those things looking like a cat fight at a drag show with lots of swinging and grabbing but no real punches. Somehow slap fighting like Dion Sanders is tolerable, I guess.

Daddy always told me not to punch. But if you do, you better mean it, by gawd. In that regards, Yancey's was a pure thing of beauty.

RE: Crosstown Classic Pregame Thread
I had some free time last night so I thought, "What the hell; why not call in to Lance's show and prove there is interest in the Shootout?"

Huge mistake. And I should have known better.

I called in right at 6, producer answered, asked my name and location and put me on hold.

45 minutes later, Lance hadn't taken a single call. He finally got 2 other guys on, they mentioned the Shootout, and then he moved on to Reds talk. I stayed on hold just to see what would happen. Another 15 minutes later, I was hung up on. The call wasn't dropped. All of a sudden, a female picked up the line (and I had spoken to a guy earlier). She said, "Hello?" And I responded that I had been waiting an hour to talk the Shootout with Lance. Click.

I'll never ever listen to him again. I know, I know - my fault. There's no changing the current narrative, though. No grassroots campaign will do it. I'm tired of hearing that the interest isn't there. Bull.

Have had the same experience numerous times. His cries of no interest due to lack of callers is his own making.
