There is now a wrecking ball (no Miley Cryus, though) taking down the last bit of the press box.

Was just watching that myself. Love watching wrecking balls for some reason.

Looks like they need a bigger wrecking ball.

Went and committed today for seats in new area. I will be giving up 45 yard row 29 seats for 30 yard seats in new pavilion. There are seats still available. If you can swing it commit $15,000 and get 2 seats for 3 years.

We need to show ACC or B12 we are committed. I am sure if one of them invited us the extra money would easily cover another 5 or 10,000 seat addition to bring us in line with the ACC or B12 minimum.

GO CATS!

Even if the money was there, can we add another 10,000 to the new Nippert? If so where? Maybe knock down shank and put a new bigger upper deck there?

There's a minimum seating number for the ACC or B12?

No minimum but consider:

ACC has all over 50,000 but:
1. Duke at 33,941 but they are special
2. Wake at 31,500
3. BC 44,500

B12 has all over 50,000 but TCU at 45,000.

If I were Ono pitching I would be willing to commit to adding 5-10,000 to be at 45,000 -50,000 for ACC or B12 and a remodel of The 5/3. An extra $15 million would pay for these over time easily.
There's a minimum seating number for the ACC or B12?

Not true about the B12...
TCU (as you noted), SHRUNK their stadium from 50k to 45k, but added premium/box seating.
BAYLOR is building a completely new stadium that is 45k capacity.

Not only that, in the ACC, Georgia Tech (Bobby Dodd Stadium) is a 45k stadium.

The key thing about the Nippert expansion is that it now has revenue generating seats (ie. "Boxes"). That will allow the Athletic Department to generate it's own revenues which will create stability within the Athletic Dept. This has been a sore spot since before the Brian Kelly years.

Sorry, I was incorrect... Bobby Dodd's capacity is actually 46k:
"Following the 1985 season, the historic South Stands, which formed the familiar U-shape on North Avenue, were razed. In their place is the William C. Wardlaw Center, a multi-purpose facility for Georgia Tech's athletic and academic departments that was opened for the 1988 season. Seating capacity was reduced to 46,000. "

I think you will see a trend towards stadiums with reduced, but higher quality seating.

With the advent of HD television and most all games being on TV, there is less incentive to attend the games in person in small cramped uncomfortable seating (at least for me).

I personally find this with basketball, also.

That's funny since my source was the Georgia Tech athletics site... If GT advertises the capacity at 46k that's what I'm going with...

How would they expand Nippert even if they wanted to? They kind of boxed themselves in.

That is why we have builders and designers.

I think... and I'm not an architect nor an engineer... that the Reed-Shank Pavillion could be rebuilt along the lines of the new press box-suites to provide more seating and boxes... But it'd be a cost-prohibitive thing. And it would be at least a decade off...

It was reduced to 46,000, but then had an atrocious north end zone addition about ten tears ago:

Poorly worded on their part? The last sentence says...
Quote:The largest crowd to see a game in the current configuration was at the 2006 season opener, when Tech hosted second-ranked Notre Dame before a crowd of 56,680.

Also Wikipedia list all the renovations in detail and has capacity at 55k since 2003
