Greg Swaim reporting B12 considering adding two
Greg Swaim Show‏@GSwaim
@BYUBronto #Big12 is considering whether they need to add two more for a CCG, but as of today it's 6-4 no.

Greg Swaim Show‏@GSwaim15h
In virtually every scenario an 11-1 #Big12 champ will get passed up by a 12-1 CCG champ from #SEC, #Pac12, #ACC, #B12.

Greg Swaim Show‏@GSwaim15h
@EdWirtz30: @GSwaim @kahunacougar Byu and Cincy or Cincy and UCF" // If they add it'll be Cincy and one of the other two for starters.

RE: Greg Swaim reporting B12 considering adding two
Is this the same Swaim who reported that FSU and Clemson were going to the B12 last year?

While it would be great for Cincy and BYU or UCF, I can't imagine Texas being happy about it, but perhaps the smaller B12 schools need to take steps to protect themselves in case Texas ever leaves.

We haven't had any realignment news for so long I'm actually excited by a thread based on a gswaim tweet.

BYU, Cincy, UCF, Tulane, Colorado State, No. Illinois would make for a good 16 teams.

Then Texas and OU could retreat into a SW bubble of Texas, TT, TCU, Baylor, OU, OSU, Tulane, and BYU

I do wonder if them seeing where Baylor is kind of is making them take stock a bit. Baylor had 2 OOC games against Bowl Eligible teams- but finished 8.25 in the computers. Even if they had been close in the OSU game- and had Alabama's poll numbers- they would have still been behind Michigan St for 4th.

It's amazing how quickly UCF became the darling compared to USF. Very fickle and shortsighted to take anything less than a 5 year track record. Cincinnati and BYU have it. Taking both UCF and USF after they get to 12 would not be a bad idea, but I just don't know how you choose one of the two at this point other than a coin flip if you are thinking 50 years.

What does that do to the per team TV payout?

Depends on how much $$$ they can make off the championship game. I'm not sure how much TV will pay for adding Cincinnati. BYU is another story. They really needed to have added Louisville last time with WVU. A bridge to the grouping of Louisville, Cincy, WVU, and BYU could have been lucrative.

In realignment, Swaim was the first The Dude. The amount of crap he posted was amazing. Please don't give him attention. If he turns out right, it will be by complete considence.

So we're doing this again huh?

My favorite is the last one. Guy asks a one or the other question. Its like someone saying, 'Do you want your sandwich on white or wheat?' and you respond 'Yes'.

I think the answer is obvious to objective observers. UCF has won conference championships (going undefeated in AAC play this year) and ended the year ranked, had 10 win seasons in 3 of the last 4 seasons and is going to a BCS bowl in the only assured opportunity they may ever have. Also they've (UCF) invested heavily in the campus infrastructure worthy of a P5 invite. In short UCF has accomplished what USF never has in spite of an 8 year head start, and built a quality program in the process that is built for the long haul. Now look at what USF has done. Do a little independent research on UCF and you might answer your own question. USF is a fine institution, UCF is just much better and has done much more with much less (they didn't have 8 years in an AQ conference like USF). You might also want to compare TV ratings, UCF is the highest rated/watched of all G5 schools and independents outside of ND. They have an OCS and USF doesn't. Need I go on?

RE: Greg Swaim reporting B12 considering adding two
Its time for the Big 12 to embrace its roots and become the best Central Time zone conference which it could possibly be. It should stick with Central time zone schools and stick with state schools that are at least the 2nd best schools in their state (in other words schools like Iowa State, Kansas State, Oklahoma State)

Memphis and Cincy are state schools that can provide a bridge to WVU, although Cincy seems a better fit for the ACC. And you could argue if they were added to the big 12, they probably would become the 2nd best schools in their state.

NIU would be an interesting addition for the Big 12. Iowa State is getting lonely up North. A big 12 membership would be enough to build a new 30k dome stadium in the western suburbs of Chicago.

Schools like Arky State and Missouri state fit the big 12 profile better but both are at least 10 years away from being ready for the Big 12. La Tech could easily pass Tulane if it was added to the Big 12 and would work better in the long term than Tulane.

New Mexico has great potential, but fits better in the PAC-12. BYU has cultural issues that would not fit with the Big 12.

UCF and USF don't fit the Big 12 profile at all.

W: OU, Ok St, KU, Kstate, I state, Col State, BYU

E: Texas, Tex Tech, Baylor, TCU, WVU, Cincy, UCF

For me, I think UCF having a nice on campus stadium, rather than having to use the too large and not on campus Raymond James Stadium would sway my choice. Bright House Stadium is also expandable, should the demand be there.

Expanded by 10,000 seats in the next few years.

RE: Greg Swaim reporting B12 considering adding two
This guy has no credibility whatsoever. He has been wrong as often as the Dude was. The same goes for the Ethridge guy from Baylor and Chip Brown at Texas. All of those guys were comically inept in reporting this stuff last year and the year before last. They were all just guessing, just like you and me.

I still think - and will always think - that the Big 12 missed out on a GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY when they failed to grab West Virginia and Louisville instead of just the Mountaineers. That would have basically secured their future whereas now they are pretty clearly the most vulnerable of the Power 5 conferences. That was a very shortsighted decision by everyone involved and now they'll have to adjust.

I think the trio of West Virginia, Louisville and Cincinnati would have been a great way to go and would have basically turned the Ohio Valley into Big 12 territory. Further, it would have given fans of those teams easy travel games to go along with marquee games at Texas and Oklahoma. Also, by going that route, it would have left the B12 with South Florida and Central Florida sitting as teams no. 13 and 14 if they ever wanted to join the ACC, SEC and B1G Superconference phase.

Imagine a league like this (not bad, IMHO):

EAST
Central Florida
Cincinnati
Kansas
Kansas State
Louisville
South Florida
West Virginia

WEST
Baylor
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Texas
Texas Christian
Texas Tech

or by zipper...

Zipper
GROUP A
Texas
Texas Tech
Baylor
Iowa State
Cincinnati
Louisville
West Virginia

GROUP B
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Kansas
Kansas State
Texas Christian
South Florida
Central Florida

(or something like the above)

Instead the Big 12 focused on the short term money and ignored everything else. Now, Louisville is off the table and West Virginia is basically stuck on an island, thousands of miles away from the rest of its league. BYU is a bad idea because of its location (late start times, tough travel). Now who knows what they'll do because they screwed this up pretty badly hoping against hope to leverage Florida State and Clemson into their league. Dumb decision. You can bet that they'll expand at some point - the money is going to be too great to turn down. However, where they'll go next is anyone's guess. Big 12 fans just better hope that there is an actual plan in place next time.

I believe that BYU and Cincinnati is the best available and realistic expansion combo for the Big 12. However, I don't trust Greg Swaim any farther than I can throw him.

I think UCF is closing quickly. Just made the BCS, and the fact that they have that F in their name. Florida.

UCONN made the BCS
Hawaii made the BCS
Norther Illinois made the BCS
Boise State made the BCS

I would like to remove the "made the BCS" portion because it doesn't really help with realignment. Conferences want teams that will add something to the pie...increase competitiveness...add more attractive matchups..etc. BYU fits the Big 12 but that Sunday thing is a killer. Cincy would be a good fit to go along with WV. I just don't know how sustainable that model is long term.

I'd say getting into Florida adds something to the pie.

Alright, how about this one, School with the largest TV Viewership in the 2013 football season: UCF.

Higher than all other "candidates."
