Perfect timing. Was getting grief from my friends at Illinois and Indiana...told them "They're doing what they should be doing" (among other things...)
Thanks for putting this up!

That number is skewed greatly due to the CHANCE program, which offers educational opportunities for students who otherwise wouldn't get a sniff from other places of higher learning. I recall seeing a crazy amount of dropouts within the first year in that program, but some impressive success stories as well. Kind of stinks that those numbers count against the school, which makes things look quite ugly.

I work about 5 ft from a Dookie alum, and we both found it pretty amusing when the report on the rankings came out. I'd love to play Duke, just as long as basketball has nothing to do with it.

Now that would be a cool bowl game addition. The Mens basketball teams play before the Bowl game

The chance program only has around 400 students and they all are not black males. NIU overall has a terrible graduation rate.

Wow, if you play football at Oklahoma state, the odds are against you for graduating. Does anyone think leaving early for the nfl draft plays into this?

What is the New America Foundation's Education Policy Program? Has anyone heard of them before? How does this compare to the Academic Progress Rate?

They incorporate the APR as part of their formula.

Looks like they've done this since 2007. NIU was second last year too.

Lots of people transfer out after their first year or two for bigger programs. The students that stay are (generally)
  • Business
  • Music
  • Nursing
  • Teaching

Obviously those are just generalities, but I know at least 40% of my floor fresh, soph, and junior year transferred out to other schools.

The facts backup your generalities. I wonder why so many students are dropping out or transferring? Is NIU too hard for them? Are they unprepared for college life? Is NIU just filling up slots because they need the numbers?
