I'm as sorry to see him go as NIU fans are to see Owens leave.

As a Rocket fan, I have to say I'll miss him. He was terrific for our record against BG.

Let's see... previous Wake Forest coach came from the MAC, had a mediocre record and stuck around for 12-13 paychecks. Got 'em to an Orange Bowl once and got smoked - something a MAC coach is perfectly capable of (looking at you, NIU)... Oh, and Wake Forest is a dead end job. But it's not all about the money now, is it?

I hope to God its about the money. He could hang around BG, have a few good seasons and some bad ones, make 400 grand a year and eventually get fired OR take the 3 mill ayear, do the same at WF and the only difference would be the money and no more annual losses to UT.

I don't call any job that pays $2-3 million, a dead end job, but even if it is, it sure is a nice ending!

RE: OT - MAC Coaching Movement
till the MAC gets a better TV contract than OHSAA on sportstime Ohio and the teams avg 30,0000 or more a game this will continue to be the trend. The only reason coaches come to our league as HC is for the HC experience. The HC's in this league make less than Alabama and OSU coordinators. Wake Forest plays in a great conference and is a great academic school also.

Clawson's had success at Fordham and Richmond...two schools that were known far more for academics than athletics. He took over BGSU when the program was shambles and completely rebuilt it seeing continual improvement on the field and in the classroom.
Given time...and I don't think there will be the "win now" pressure at Wake that you might find elsewhere... he could do well there. You might even say that given his track record, it's a perfect fit.

I dont think Rod Carey from NIU goes anywhere. He got exposed big time that he will have trouble winning without Lynch.

I think Pete Lembo gets a good gig this year. He has prior head coaching experience before Ball State.

Matt Campbell is staying put. He got exposed on play calling, use of time outs, and his teams ability to close the deal.

RE: OT - MAC Coaching Movement
Again the big schools won't schedule us, won't visit our staidums, want to keep us out of bowl picture and national money, don't think our kids can compete at national level for awards and as draft picks, but they have no problem raiding us for our coaches who work their butts off with fewer (but improved resources), smaller budgets, smaller salaries, etc. etc. It's like a broken record.
Also how many times have we seen a MAC school with momentum, win the MACC then their coach gets snapped up before bowl season and then stumble. The kids at BG worked their butts off for Clawson and he bolts at the first mention of an offer.

RE: OT - MAC Coaching Movement
You always kind of hope for someone who isn't necessarily interested in money, but rather wants to stick around and build a legacy/dynasty. I guess those kind of individuals are far and few nowadays. Would have liked to have seen Tom Amstutz end up in that kind of situation but in the end that scenario didn't work out.
