Also interviewing AState head coach Bryan Harsin, who just coached AState to its third Sun Belt title in three years under three different coaches.

If the pick Harsin, AState will go into 2014 with its 5th coach in five years.

Koetter was the top choice of Hawaii's AD and search committee two years ago, but the school president at the time overruled them and directed the AD to hire Norm Chow instead.

Twenty losses later...

With his experience, Koetter may be at the top of the list. He did well at Boise State before, he would do well there again. Now that he has NFL experience, there's no telling what he could do.

I like Norm Chow but damn, Hawaii really screwed up on that one...

He should stay at AState where he is at one of the top programs at a G5 conference.

Boise is always going to be a great MWC program but its not for everyone.

Despite all the Ls, Hawaii is getting a lot better, no? Lost a lot of close games to good teams.

If Dirk Koetter is hired, they should played the theme to "Welcome Back Kotter"* at every home game next year in Boise.

Hawaii's offense improved this year while the defense got much worse. The main concern of many UH fans is that Chow has had ongoing problems executing basic head-coaching duties like selecting competent staff, putting the best talent on the field, making effective in-game adjustments and managing the clock. There is no evidence he has gotten any better in these areas since he first took the job. IMHO he was the wrong choice and needs to be replaced.

Except he has stated that BSU would be his dream job. He's a Boise native, played QB at BSU....

Fun photo from the article linked below: Bryan Harsin and Dirk Koetter. At the time, Harsin was Boise's backup QB and Koetter was the head coach.

Old guys rule, apparently: Latest rumor is that Harsin has withdrawn from consideration and Koetter will get the job.

I think now it'll be Wilcox. The silence around him makes me suspect. Saw that Jeff Tedford also interviewed.

Wow! I think BSU is looking for longer term stability, in which Wilcox with probably up and leave after a few successful years.

Wilcox would definitely be a flight risk there. He has his eye on bigger things. But, IMO, if your coach wins 10-12 games a year and leverages that into another job, that's a good problem to have.

If they want a guy who will stay, hiring Koetter is like hiring Mike Riley for a second time at Oregon State -- you figure that if the guy wants to come back after going through a few other jobs around the country, that he'll stay if he can make it work there.

People close to ASU are saying that Harsin has not withdrawn his name for consideration. Apparently someone jumped the gun in the rumor mill.

Maybe so. Earlier someone was saying Koetter was a done deal, now the report is that Koetter didn't even leave Atlanta and didn't have an in-person interview, he just had two phone interviews.

I don't get the Tedford thing; Koetter I understand being that he has Boise ties.

Which guy is the better recruiter?
