Maybe the bowl is MAC payback for the officiating screw up with the safety

Great marching band though, but now they have competition from UMass.

You can't even get to Athens from anywhere important. I've gotten to remote coal towns in Kentucky & Tennesee easier than Athens, Ohio.

thank you. glad to see at least one Rocket fan sees this constant petty whining about all things Ohio is classless.

Im definitely in agreement that OU shouldn't be there. But, at the end of the day, I'm not the bowl director.

The only thing that matters is if OU can rise to the challenge (and the excitement of getting chosen over a better conference foe) to represent the conference well in terms of fans at the game and points on the board.

If OU comes out and gets swept off the field, then its embarrassing for everyone involved, most notably OU AND the bowl director then.

Oh, no, now you've put us in the way of another roadwork report on the Athens to Columbus Expressway.

Do you really think more than a handful of people are paying any attention to why the Beef O'Brady Bowl picked whom they did? Besides a few dozen message board posters for OU and UT, a game like that is just Monday afternoon programming for ESPN, to be forgotten as soon as it's over, like so many bowls. The people who care about the game are few and the rest aren't really passing judgments on the reasons some unknown bowl director gave two weeks earlier to a local paper.

These minor bowls are just cotton candy to the average CFB fan: consumed and vanished.

RE: Tampa Bay Times on Picking Ohio over Toledo
Actually I do. Its called recruits. They pay attention to these "minor" bowls.

And the occasional fan. They see a score that sees OU win, they are happy, call it a day, but come next year, that person might remember oh hey, I remember catching that score and saw they won, maybe I'll check out a game.

ALSO, those minor bowls- its the PLAYERS that apparently you cheer for that care.

its one thing to say you think Toledo should be in a bowl, its something different to say another team shouldn't. I'm excited for Ohio but that doesn't mean I don't wish Toledo was in a bowl too.

if Ohio was to get swept off the field by a score of 41-15, for instance, I would expect that would be embarrassing for everyone involved and might affect Ohio's chances of being picked for a bowl the following year.

RE: Tampa Bay Times on Picking Ohio over Toledo
Sounds like a relative handful of people: a few fans, a few players, and maybe a few recruits though I can't imagine the Beef O'Brady Bowl will be the tipping point in their decisions. Maybe if the team they are considering sucks in the game, they will go there figuring they will play sooner. Who knows?

Also, as for the players caring, I'm sure most do, but did you see OU play in November? And I haven't cheered for any of the players who will be playing in that game. Did I miss something?

When it comes in terms of between these two teams in particular--- no Ohio shouldn't be bowling over Toledo.

It doesn't necessarily negate that I believe OU shouldn't be in a bowl "on their own" not necessarily pared up against UT. I'm all in for the MAC each and every year, every game except when it comes to the other MAC team playing UT. So I want OU to be in a bowl, for the conference and for OU. I feel they deserve it with the record they produced. Yeah, they got blown out a few times, but a 7-5 record is decent and they have some quality wins.

My argument was saying that paired at UT, I don't believe that 7-5 record is as good as UT's 7-5. BUTTTTTT, what I also said above that-- its not up to ME, its up to the bowl themselves, so its a moot point, except friendly message board banter.

Actually, neither team really "deserves" a bowl. It's just that OU is less deserving of a bowl than UT.

^This pretty much sums it up.

If it makes UT fans feel a bit better, Western Kentucky probably feels they deserve a bowl, too...

If only they had been allowed to start the Camellia bowl a year earlier, they could have played each other.
