Thoughts and prayers for MU commit Josh Rimes
This is my first thread as I am not yet a member of the CUSA family but wanted to ask for prayers for MU commit Josh "Caleb" Rimes and his family. Josh was in a diving accident and suffered a broken neck. He underwent surgery this weekend and based on the last information that I have was paralyzed to some extent. He was originally planning to be an EE for MU but decided to finish his senior year in order to defend his state heavyweight powerlifting title.
I heard of this through my daughter who is a first year PE teacher and girls' powerlifting coach at LaBelle HS. Josh has been somewhat of an unpaid volunteer helping my daughter with her team. He is a fine young man who hopefully will be an asset to the MU football family.

That is so sad. So did you actually mean to type diving or did you mean driving? Just wanted to clarify and thanks for relaying the message. Very sad to hear. We were excited to get Josh. Hopefully the paralysis is not permanent. Do you know the extent of the paralysis?

It was diving into a pond and Josh hit the bottom. I will try to get updates from my daughter as I am sure she will hear news periodically. LaBelle is a very small close-knit community and Josh is a very well-liked young man so I am sure his progress will become common knowledge.
I do not know the extent or long-term prognosis.
I will definitely keep you posted.

Horrible news.

A sobering reminder that 90% of the things we talk about, think about, worry about, argue about, are really nothing but trivia.

Thank you. I know from the discussion on our board about it says that he is likely done with football. I pray that football wasn't his only route to college. If it was I hope our staff can still get him in classses. This has got to be hard on Josh.

Why was he diving in a pond? It's pretty cold to be swimming or am I missing something?

Yeah, it was probably 75-80 degrees.
My daughter was back in Bowling Green for Thanksgiving break and was not happy with the 30 degree weather. She was very happy to go back to LaBelle.

Well that makes sense then.

Sad.

I hate when a young person has the world at their fingertips and an accident like this takes away a great opportunity.

RE: Thoughts and prayers for MU commit Josh Rimes
Just a quick update.
I spoke with my daughter this morning, and Josh is undergoing physical therapy. He has feeling in his toes, but at this time is unable to move them. He can flex his biceps and squeeze a ball in his hands.
My daughter said that when the PT said that he had done enough and could stop, Josh said no that he wanted to keep working. Determination will be important in his road to recovery.

On another note... Josh has been informed that Marshall University will honor his scholarship. if he chooses to still attend.
Classy move by the Marshall University Athletic Department and Administration.

Got a lot of respect for MU. That is a big way to step up for that kid.

I am happy the school is stepping up especially when you consider that at this point he was not officially committed, just a verbal. I really hope that he continues to see progress and is able to excel in the classroom.

RE: Thoughts and prayers for MU commit Josh Rimes
Just a quick note on Josh Rime; My daughter sent me a photo of Josh in a wheelchair taken while he was visiting at LaBelle HS. He has obviously lost a lot of weight due to loss of muscle tone. He lloks more like a linebacker than a lineman now. I am awaiting information from my daughter re: his improvement and/or prognosis.
