Bowl Packages
NIU has down a good job having bowl packages available already. It is too bad that the game is on the 26th and in San Diego. I would assume the vast majority of people have Christmas plans locked in and getting to the west coast for a game the next day is extremely difficult. The package has you coming back on the 27th, I wish they had 1-2 more days since traveling out west you would like to get your money's worth. I

RE: Bowl Packages
Why do they not have one package that flys out the morning of Dec. 26th and attends the game with a stayover on the back end? Very few would want to fly out on Christmas Day. I would be more apt to stay over go to the zoo or something the following day or two after. Poor coordination on their part.

I was thinking the same thing, come back on Saturday after having Friday to do touristy stuff. Can't make everyone happy I guess, with the game the day after Christmas. It's still possible for me, if I can justify the cost.

I'll be looking into it too, but probably not thru the poor packages they have listed.

I don't know about most of you guys, but I have 3 kids and $1700 is not in any way affordable for me. I'll be watching from home.

Per person. Plus the cost of tickets, meals, game souvenirs, etc. If you and your spouse or significant other go via the package, figure on dropping well over 4 grand.

RE: Bowl Packages
There are two things about the charter packages that I find surprising:

1) $1739 per person (double occupancy) and that does NOT include game tickets or the pregame tailgate event. WTF?

2) This year's charter, like the Orange Bowl charter, flies out of Midway. Prior to the Orange Bowl, fan charters flew out of Rockford. With parking being free at Rockford, that's an additional expense for fans having to drive to Midway.

I have a feeling that, unlike last year, they will NOT be selling these charters out.

I believe it said there needed to be 170 people or something for the package to work. Wonder if they'll even get that.

The fact I'd only be paying for me is the only way I can even consider it. If I had a family I'd have to sell the car.

140 people is the minimum. They'll get that many, but only because the band will be on the plane.

RE: Bowl Packages
if anyone is seeing cheap airfares, please post here. Right now it just doesn't look financially feasible.

Right now even a one way on Southwest is $500 flying out there on the 26th.

Like most of you I can't fly out on Christmas Day so it would have to be on the 26th.

If you fly on Spirit, better cross your fingers that you and/or your luggage will make it to San Diego. I think I'd rather walk from Chicago.
