Question for the old guard:
Last year, when West Virginia started off Big 12 play undefeated (something like 5 or 6 wins) the common consensus among Big East schools was a resounding "SEE!? A former Big East team is dominating! Give us more respect!"
With UCF's success this year, what are your feelings towards the competitiveness of the last legs of C-USA 2.0? (this reincarnation assumed to be C-USA 3.0)

RE: Question for the old guard:
well UCF did dominate every other season in CUSA 2.0 Especially my own team.
UTSA MTSU UNT and FAU are all bowl eligible and all CUSA newbies. I think CUSA will be okay. We were probably a better more respected conference in 2.0 and even moreso in 1.0 but that is purely name recognition and not really on the field product.
Baylor just destroyed Texas
Mizzou made the title game in the SEC in year 2
aTm isn't doing too bad either
It makes me think that a lot of teams and conferences are a lot closer in potential and strength than the media types would like you to believe.

I think a lot of people overvalue coaching and supposed athletic skill and undervalue momentum and passion.
Mizzou had something to prove this season and has just the right momentum kicks to get it done.
However, given the utter and complete lack of defense on either side of the ball in that game i'd be hard pressed to name either of them top 5 teams.
A top 5 team is a team that looks like FSU right now.

RE: Question for the old guard:
I think the conference did well this year, with several of our new teams performing well, 8 bowl eligible teams, two of the "old guard" playing for the conference championship. I think UCF's season is a bit of boon to C-USA in a back handed kind of way. You guys developed on C-USA competition, and steady doses of ECU, Marshall, UAB, USM and Memphis helped you become who you are today. This year, I think there were games where you played up to your competition (USC, Penn State, Louisville, Houston), but there were games where you didn't look as sharp (USF and SMU.) I for one, am very happy to see you win the AAC (which today, is the class of the mid-level conferences, imo) and I hope you win your bowl game, although that may be a tough order if it is Baylor, as projected. But as to your question, I think C-USA 3.0 (or whatever number we are on) promises to be very competitive in our upper tier teams now and into the future, and I think that within 3-5 years, we will be in the conversation.

RE: Question for the old guard:
TCU left a few years ago after going 6-6 in CUSA and ran through the MWC like a hot knife through butter. CUSA has always beaten it's own up even if it never had a top line program record wise the top teams can play with anyone. Look at 2011. Had a team finally lined up for a BCS bowl and the title game resulted in Houston getting ***** slapped by USM. The league has just not had a lot of good luck in even the better seasons. I thought UCF was loaded and ready to win the AAC before the season and they only finished 2nd in CUSA last season.
Veteran teams with talent are always the most reliable and it appears CUSA has some coming back. I think Marshall returns most of their best players. You could see a national run by them next year. I don't know their OOC schedule though. MTSU and FAU play a tough smash mouth style as does North Texas. One of those could be a breakout team. Bailiff appears to have Rice on a roll and i still believe in Skip Holtz if he will let go of the offense and let his OC run it. He will have La Tech playing great defense before they're done.

I think MTSU and WKU are going to do well in this league. Similar to Mizzou in the SEC.

I'm just glad Louisville got put in their place...I sure hope UConn, Memphis, or Cincy win AAC hoops title...I just don't want UL to win...Rutgers is just a dumpster fire...I'd rather have Tulane over them anyway.

without this turning into a realignment rant, I will just say that I never had any doubts about the high level of competition in c-cusa 2.0.

RE: Question for the old guard:
I knew UNT was good, but not as good as they were. Man, what a defense. I had no idea what to expect from UTSA or FAU, well they both beat us so I was surprised. Heck, UTSA had every reason to lay down and had a heck on a second half!
Good luck everyone, it truly has been a pleasure competing with you guys!
