Interesting...

Quote:The Sun Belt Conference Presidents and Chancellors authorized me two weeks ago to use Sun Belt funds at my discretion to entice both bowls to take a Sun Belt team. As a result, the Sun Belt made very significant financial offers to both bowls that clearly exceeded anything the Sun Belt has done in previous years.

I see in the article they targeted the LCP and the Independence bowl. Not sure why they would give up Pitt, Arizona, or BC for a sun belt team, even with the extra cash. Interesting idea though.

Pitt's an excellent fit for the Pizza Eaters bowl, I'd be hard pressed to come up with a better substitute for the last eligible Big Ten school when the Big Ten comes up short of bowl teams because of NCAA Sanctions (x Penn State, 7-5(4-4)).

Still wouldn't had filled the Pizza with an eligble Penn State...the Heart of Dallas bowl would have got the choice ahead of LCP.

That why this whole "Detroit Lions" bowl is so interesting, because the likelihood that a B1G actually participates is so small...haven't really heard a lot of movement on it either...wouldn't surprise me if it didn't happen.

Good points about the new bowl in Detroit.

At least until PSU is eligible again the B1G will still have numbers problems.

Not sur .maryland and Rutgers will help much.

We came close with Independence. We offered up over 100K and the team we wanted to place there guaranteed up to 20K tickets sold.

Sponsors wanted a PAC 12...and Sponsors win that battle every time. Stupid television.

Clemson paid Boise over $100k in incentive to play there in 2001.

Nothing new under the sun.
