RE: Bowl Payouts
Payouts are meaningless for the most part, because as much as 90-95% of the payout is often in tickets. And you have to sell them through your own ticket office for them to count. I think this works out very well for North Texas. You get a local game against a good opponent.

No... it does not work out well for North Texas. We are in a bowl that is tied to the BIG 10 and now have to play UNLV. UNLV IS THE 4TH BEST TEAM IN WMC WEST! We traded away a spot the Hawaii Bowl to help the PAC 12 place a team in another bowl against the MWC. That was stupid. Nothing about UNLV playing in the HOD is good for North Texas.

Our alumni won't show up on New Years to watch a game they could see in our OOC. We got screwed!

At least MTSU got Navy.

What are you complaining about? We are playing our first bowl game since 2004, on New Years Day (meaning people don't work), at the Cotton Bowl (which our fans can easily get to, as well as recruits), against a team that we should beat. I'd say we got a pretty good deal.

I'd agree with that. New Year's isn't like Christmas. I'd welcome a New Year's Bowl party with my fellow fans at a bowl site. Especially one as close as what you are getting.

It is really a great opportunity for UNT to grow their brand in state and nationally, because they should be favored in this one and should have a great turnout. I will be rooting for you guys!

This football thing is new to me, so does the conference get any revenue from the bowl games? Is there revenue to be shared by the other teams?

Yes. I'm not sure whether you all will be included this go around, though.

Pretty sure Charlotte (or ODU) won't get a cut of the football money till we play a full conference schedule.

I think Nugget was more interested in percentages and breakdown of where the money goes.

I'm pretty sure it's all put into a pot. Travel expenses are taken care of first. Then, it's divided equally among all member schools.

RE: Bowl Payouts
Nugget,

The answer to that question is actually a bit complicated.

A simplified version is this. Basically, unless the school is going to sell over 8-10,000 tickets (give or take) you're basically hoping to be break even. Since no one has to go to Hawaii this year and the league doesn't have to subsidize that travel will help.

The true revenue will come from our split of the BCS money, which will be a small percent of the total piece of the pie. The actual amount will depend on where C-USA finishes as a conference in the final rankings.

RE: Bowl Payouts
You guys are hitting the nail on the head. I wasn't thinking about us right away, but more interested in how it works. Every conference does it differently, but the NCAA Basketball Tournament can pay handsomely and is the gift that keeps on giving because the units you earn pay for six years. I did not know if bowl games generated similar money, or if the school kept it all or shared.

I know in C-USA 1.0 we were a money generator, but in the A-10 we were a leech. With conferences getting so much larger I am curious to see if we end up with 1/2 - 2/3 of the teams not generating any post season bucks for the pot, and more importantly...which group will we be in.

RE: Bowl Payouts
Here is the way I understand it.

In CUSA, Every team that makes a bowl game has their traveling expenses covered from money off the top.

Then, the first $100,000 in ticket revenue (sold through each school) is kept by each school.

Whatever money is left over is then put into a big pot and then redistributed evenly amongst all conference members.

Heart of Dallas bowl is great with a $2.2 million dollar payout; we just wished we were playing someone else. UNLV is bush league and will bring no one to the game. UNT will have at least 30,000 there.

Not being a douche at all BUT....you really think you guys will have 30,000 there? Did you guys have that many for any of the home games this year?

I'm not trying to be a jerk, if you guys have over 30k for a home game this year I just hadn't seen it. I hope to goodness you guys not only get 30k there, but I hope you put it all over UNLV.

Also, isn't some of the Bowl "payout" also given back to the bowl for an "advertisement fee" of said bowl ?
