Football host game thought (attendance)
First, congratulations to East champion Marshall and C-USA champion Rice. What a great year for you both.

On our BGN board, it was discussed the attendance for today. My opinion is the weather sucked, but Rice earned the chance to host, hosted, and then hoisted a trophy. Good for them.

But going forward, here's an idea that may help competitive schools to actually boost season tickets or late season sells in the future. What if the conference instituted an attendance clause for football? IN order to host, your school must average at least XX,XXX for season average. If not, the other division champion hosts.

I could see that helping to drive ticket sells. Would that be fair, or should it matter?

If that would be a good idea, what would you think the number (average attendance) be set at?

Go C-USA bowl teams! Epic Applause

Why not just cancel all the games and see which school can sell the most girl scout cookies?

Team with the best record hosts the game. Its a reward for the team, not the fans or the TV producers.

Best record should host, I am cool with that. If not, then a neutral site, but I doubt CUSA can get a deal for a neutral to make it work that way.

Or better yet CUSA should agree to have their championship game be the under card for the SEC title game. That way fans at the Georgia Dome could get two games for the price of one and then CUSA could claim higher title game attendance.

So we'd all have to travel and our tickets would cost $100 in advance or $400 on the secondary market?

I'm more leaning towards an octuple-header in Ann Arbor. After all, UM has higher attendance than Auburn or Ohio State.

Team with the best record should have home field advantage. If they both have identical records, it can be settled by flipping a coin, rock paper scissors, Call of Duty/Halo tournament, or dance line/cheerleader wet t-shirt contest.

Best record should host. The regular season should count for a lot, and give the 'stronger' team the advantage.

1. best conference record
2. head to head.
3. best record against common opponents
4. best NET points against common opponents
5. coin flip

1-4 all easily quantifiable, all easily understood.

Attendance would never, ever, ever work. Too easy to game the system.

1. Conference record
2. Head to Head
3. If one of the two teams is ranked in the CFB Playoff Committee's released rankings (I believe they are releasing Top 25), the highest ranked team hosts
4. Alternate East vs. West (only alternates when this tiebreaker is used)

I think the weather played a major role with attendance on yesterday. It was brutally cold in Houston this weekend at least by Houston's standards. I was in Houston for the SWAC Championship game and I can say first hand the weather sucked.

This would never work. Some schools find it necessary to always bloat their attendance in order to solidify their smoke and mirrors programs therefore would NEVER agree to any directive to report accurate numbers. Just review the most recent reported attendance averages and remember what you SAW when they were on tv.
