5th fastest in the country! Is that A or B standard?

This may be the best weekend in Rice Athletics since the national championship. (Also the swimming championships were awesome as well as final 4 in tennis)

There are no "A" or "B" standards for the marathon. At last year‘s World Championships, the one standard was 2:43:00

Wow, what an impressive debut. She already is likely the highest paid female pro athlete in Rice history with that performance (I'm assuming there is some prize money that comes with the win).

To correct an earlier post - there is an "A" standard for U.S. Olympic Trials (2:37:00).

For winning, Becky receives $10,000 PLUS a $2,500 bonus for hitting the "A" standard.

A nice payday, but I'm confident that Funmi Jimoh is the highest paid (by a long shot).

And she's qualified for the Olympic Marathon Trials in 2016.

It's the third fastest time ever, and the fastest since 1999, at the CIM.

That's a heck of a debut. Cal International has a reputation as being flat and fast. Awesome job getting that win. Good luck on getting faster still at the marathon distance.

WRC - what group/team does she train with? Or is she currently solo?

Becky trains in Houston. She is coached by Rice women's coach Jim Bevan. I think he must know what he's doing ...

As I mentioned in my preview, the course has rolling hills with a net downhill. The last 8 or so miles are relatively flat.

I don't believe that will happen in 2014.

Yeah it seems like it takes about a year in advance to qualify, or at least it has for my friends who have qualified. Of course, they don't run 2:30s, so I don't know if there's any special invitation for top competitors. WRC's skepticism about Wade running in '14 makes me think there is not.

Here's a link to the Sacramento Bee's article on the today's marathon, including a very nice interview with Becky: http://www.sacbee.com/2013/12/08/5982233...n-win.html.

And here are links to the Bee's photos of Becky during the race:

2) Crossing the finish line: http://media.sacbee.com/smedia/2013/12/08/14/13/GyX2c.St.4.jpeg

(These are photos 42 & 21, respectively, in the slideshow: http://www.sacbee.com/2013/12/08/5982705/2013-california-international.html )

The Boston Athletic Association's website doesn't address this question directly, but it does say:

BAA website Wrote:The registration process for the 2014 Boston Marathon began on September 9, and the maximum number of athletes who ran a qualifying performance and submitted their application for entry has now been reached. The Boston Marathon does not have a waiting list, late registration on race weekend, or race day registration

The 2015 Boston Marathon is scheduled for April 20, 2015. Registration for that event is scheduled to take place in September of 2014.

It used to be that you could run CIM and possibly get in. But it is truly full now. However, with a time that's borderline elite (not sure where they draw the line), there are ways to make it happen.

It's quite possible, though, that Boston was not in her training plans for next year, even if she had won. There's a training progression here that she's going to need as she targets the marathon (presumably) longer term, and she also needs experience racing the distance, too. Should be very interesting to watch. I certainly hope she can stay healthy.

I didn't think it was right to have a thread on Becky Wade without seeing the words "Splish-Splash". Congratulations to Becky.

With the time that Becky ran, she will be an "invited" runner wherever she chooses to compete. Travel, lodging and appearance fees would be typical. The concept of "qualifying" no longer is a factor.
