RE: Rice vs South Alabama
Since I have the NCAA D1 MBB records through 2012 at hand, here's where Rice shows up:

Quote:PLAYERS WITH 2,000 POINTS & 1,000 REBOUNDS
Michael Harris / Rice / 2005 / 2,014 / 1,111

YEAR-BY-YEAR SCORING LEADERS - 1982
(Games / Points / Avg)
2. Ricky Pierce / Rice / 30 / 805 / 26.8

YEAR-BY-YEAR SCORING LEADERS - 2007
(Player / School / Games / Points / Avg)
3. Morris Almond / Rice / 32 / 844 / 26.4

DEFICIT OVERCOME TO WIN GAME
(Game / Trailed / Left / Half / Date)
Rice (76) vs. Houston (71) / 31-55 / 15:00 / 2nd / Jan. 17, 2007

SECOND-HALF DEFICIT OVERCOME TO WIN GAME
Same game as above

FEWEST POINTS SCORED IN A GAME SINCE 1986
(Points / Game / Date)
28 / Rice vs. Princeton (51) / Jan. 6, 2007

REBOUNDS
(Rebounds / Game / Date)
91 / Houston vs. Rice / Mar. 7, 1974

ALL-TIME RECORD
(School / First Season / Years / Won / Lost / Tied / %)
Rice / 1915 / 97 / 1,015 / 1,281 / 0 / .442
Not in the Top 50

Rice / - / - / 11 / 16 / 11 / 15 / - / - / - / - / - / - / - / - / -

WEEK-BY-WEEK AP POLLS - 1955-56
(School / Dec 6 / 13 / 20 / 27 / Jan 3 / 10 / 17 / 24 / 31 / Feb 7 / 14 / 21 / 28 / Mar 6)
Rice / - / - / - / 17 / 18 / - / - / - / - / - / - / - / - / -

WEEK-BY-WEEK AP POLLS - 1957-58
(School / Dec 11 / 18 / 26 / Jan 2 / 8 / 15 / 22 / 29 / Feb 5 / 12 / 19 / 26 / Mar 5 / 12)
Rice / 16 / 14 / - / - / - / - / - / - / - / - / - / - / - / -

FINAL REGULAR SEASON POLLS - 1954 - UPI
19. Rice

Overall, I am rather disconcerted by these data. I know they don't present a complete picture, but it seems the golden age of Rice MBB might have been in the '50s. That sounds familiar...

Great game. I am been very critical of Braun but if he is responsible for Washington's and Wilson's improvement then I am at least impressed there

RE: Rice vs South Alabama
Wow what a day to be a Rice fan. It was a remarkable game (and South Alabama is probably way better than some of the teams we've lost to this year already).

Guercy's prayer at the end was not pretty to see. He kind of double-clutched it and shot-putted it at the basket. It rattled off the rim but went in.

Sean Obi had a monster game with 25 points and 19 boards I think. Someone mentioned a few weeks ago that Guercy was an able substitute for Dylan Ennis. I'm not sure I'd go that far (although he's a solid player) but I do think after seeing Obi more and more that he could end up being better than Arsalan Kazemi.

We also had nice contributions at times from Keith Washington, Austin Ramljak and Ross Wilson. But in general, we're still young and missing 1 or 2 guys at key spots (we could have used Denzel Davis, the freshman who is hurt and out this year). Still, I'm happy for the team to get a nice win after some tight losses already this season.

Crazy stat that we had 4 last shot chances at winning the game with the score tied.

Good win as USA lost by 4 or 5 at UT and generally has played well.

USA is definitely better than some of the teams that bested us to date. I see them in a 2 dog fight with Louisiana for the Sun Belt bid.

A good win, considering that USA came in ranked #142. Houston, for reference, is at #198.

Actually the real golden age was during World War II. The Owls were champs or co-champs of the SWC in 1940, 42, 43, 44, and 45 and had 3 All-Americans. (They also won the SWC in 1918, 35, 49, 54, and 70.)
