You must be referring to the proposal to change Duke, UNC, FSU, and Clemson to the SEC East...05-stirthepot

Add Cincinnati and go to pods so each school can play each other sooner.

...or just stay at 14 teams and go to a North/South alignment with Miami going to the North.

North
BC, SYR, PITT, UVA, VT, LOU, MIA

South
UNC, NCSU, WAKE, DUKE, GT, CLEM, FSU

That would settle a lot of the crying, IMHO (at least in the short term).

Ugh just go North-South so people can actually remember which divisions teams are in.

Yeah, well someone's going to be pissed no matter what you do so just go with the wishes of the majority and go from there. Also, make the CCG at the home of the highest rated seed on a rotating basis. That is to say North No. 1 seed hosts it in year one, South No. 1 seed hosts it in year two, etc.

RE: ACC in Early Stages of Redrawing Divisions
Its time to get creative

South
FSU, MIAMI, CLEM, GT, LOU

North
Va, VT, BC, Syr, Pitt

Central
UNC, Duke, NCSU, Wake

Who plays in the CCG? well, half the time UNC&Duke play all the teams in the south division while NCSU&Wake play all the teams in the north and half the time it is reversed.

I am with you on the alternating host for the CCG. But, we both know that majorities do not dictate decision-making. Power does.

The only real alternatives to that are to stay with what they have, or use a donut/hole alignment like

BC, Syracuse, Pitt, Louisville, GT, FSU, Miami

UVa, VT, UNC, NCSU, Duke, Wake, Clemson

Wouldn't surprise me to see this, and they'd probably keep the Atlantic and Coastal division names.

RE: ACC in Early Stages of Redrawing Divisions
Some things to remember:

1. Splitting Clemson and FSU is a priority
2. UNC/NCSU must play each year
3. UNC/UVa must play each year
4. UNC/Duke must play each year
5. NCSU/Clemson must play each year
6. FSU/Miami must play each year
7. VT must have one game a year in the State of NC
8. VT and UVa must play each year
9. FSU wants to avoid Duke and WF
10. The ACC wants Pitt/Syracuse to play each year
11. BC wants to play Syracuse every year
12. GT wants to play FSU or Clemson every year
13. Everyone not in Florida wants a game with a Florida team each year

IIRC these are the deal breakers.

RE: ACC in Early Stages of Redrawing Divisions
If you address the deal breakers in two divisions you get:

ACC East

Miami
Clemson
UNC
NCSU
UVa
Duke
BC

ACC West:

FSU
GT
Louisville
Wake Forest
Virginia Tech
Pitt
Syracuse

Typical slate:

FSU

Miami (Rival)
GT
Louisville
Wake Forest
VT
BC
Pitt
Syracuse
ACC Rotate
Florida
X
X
X

Clemson slate:

GT-Rival
Miami
UNC
NCSU
UVA
Duke
BC
ACC Rotate
South Carolina
X
X
X

With an alignment like this ND would be plugged into the West and if say Navy were the 16th they would be plugged into the east and be Navy's rival.

Football Division:

Florida State/Miami/Clemson/Georgia Tech/Louisville/Virginia Tech/NC State

Basketball Division:

Boston College/Syracuse/Pitt/Virginia/North Carolina/Duke/Wake

1 cross division game to adress games like UVA/VT, UNC/NCS, BC/Miami etc

RE: ACC in Early Stages of Redrawing Divisions
Atlantic - Coastal
FSU..........Miami
Ga Tech....Pitt
Clemson... Louisville
Wake..........BC
Duke..........Syracuse
UNC...........UVA
NC State ...Va tech

Only problem is the VA schools won't play in NC every year. You can flip wake and BC to solve that issue. Wake could then play duke and BC Syracuse as criss divisional rivals. BC still wouldn't get to play Miami and Pitt every year like I assume they want. Wake would also really be taking one for the team as they would still lose out on UNC as an annual opponent but also nc state as well

Clearly the answer is permanent rivals, but non-permanent rotating divisions. Unless they go to geographic divisions, fans can't remember who is what division anyway. So why have permanent divisions?

RE: ACC in Early Stages of Redrawing Divisions
If you draw the lines geographically instead of based on which teams are best at a given time, you don't have to redraw them every 8 years.

I would split it North/South, with Duke being the lone NC school headed North (where most of their Alumni are).

North
Boston College
Duke
Louisville
Pittsburgh
Syracuse
Virginia
Virginia Tech

South
Clemson
Florida State
Georgia Tech
Miami
North Carolina
NC State
Wake Forest

I also would suggest moving the Championship game on campus. The Pac 12 does it so they wouldn't be the only P5 conference without a neutral site game.
