.....and an additional MAC team in a bowl this season

.....and the additional prestige and bragging rights among the non-AQ conferences a BCS bowl would bring

......and possibly a conference player being invited to NYC for the televised Heisman award

The NIU program has nothing to hang their heads about. They battled hard and hung 27 points on Bowling Green. Northern is always dangerous and a program on the way up.

Next year will be a challenge for NIU to match the last few years. In addition to Lynch, they are losing a couple starting OL players (but with good experience group of younger players returning), losing five DL players and four DBs including Jimmie Ward, the best in the MAC. The are returning all of their line backing corps.

Penalties:
BG - 8 for 60
NIU - 4 for 20

BG was flagged for 4 holding calls. One was on the first TD that was declined.

NIU was not "called" for one holding penalty all game!

Quit being an idiot.

Apologies if you were just being sarcastic!

I gotta live in the MAC, so for the time being need all the conference accolades possible.

As an NIU fan, losing was tough.
I admire your victory over BGSU.
Wish we could have done the same.
Any advice on what NIU should have done?

RE: NIU suffers stunning loss in MAC championship
Some NIU fans believe the FB season has ended.
We have fans who are really angry with the coaching staff.

BGSU is a great team and kudu's to Toledo for beating them.
They killed us.
Nice to see the underdog win a Bowl for the first time in twenty + odd years.

It does hurt, that we came so close to another BCS Bowl game and with the Heisman finalist selection at stake
the pain is compounded.

Toledo is still the classiest institution in the MAC. As an NIU fan the Toledo game still means the most to many of us.

AS Toledo fans the BGSU game meant the most to you.

For BGSU fans the Mac Title meant the most to them.

Like any FB team, there are nights when we play above our level and nights when we play below.

Still feel stunned by the loss. The next game will determine if we played above or below our level.

I expect the Huskies to acquit themselves and the MAC well in their bowl. For whatever reason, Northern played right into BG's hands and never made adjustments. Lynch won't have 2 bad games in a row. Go Huskies!

In recent times NIU has set the standard for quality football. This game doesn' t change that. We are all thrilled, THRILLED, to see Mr. Lynch move on to a new career. NIU will be just fine. We got BG at their nadir for the season. They just got stronger from there. BG played a great game but I would hate to have to pick a winner if there was a rematch.

Very kind statement. At present the feeling on the NIUboard is very negative towards the coaching staff and the defense.
First time this year, halftime adjustments were not good enough.

My favorite football quote, repeated ad nauseum on this board, is "a perfect season for a fan is when his team is undefeated, wins the national championship and they fire the coach". It may apply to your naysayers. There isn't a team in the league that wouldn't trade their last three or four years for NIU's.

4 reasons to be upset that bgSUCKS won the MACC:

1.) bgSUCKS won.
2.) They cost the MAC MILLIONS of $$$
3.) They cost UT a bowl game
4.) bgSUCKS won.

I have to take the counterpoint on 2 and 3.

2. Maybe I'm perceiving it wrong, but are people who are saying this really thinking that a team should take a dive in the conference championship so the conference can collect a big purse from a member's bowl game? If we were in the championship, is that what we would want the Rockets to do?

3. bgSUCKS had nothing to do with what went down in our games.

BGSU: 21-0 lead, then NOTHING until our last (offensive) series. After we put up 21 unanswered points, their DC magically figured out how to stop us for the rest of the game? 04-bs

Buffalo: 31-0 at the half. Then their OC magically figures out how to hang 41 points on us? We should have shut their asses out!

Akron: 'nuff said.

We screwed the pooch all by ourselves. But, that's not to say that BGSU doesn't suck.

Coach needs to grow a pair--now that he sees where chivalry got us.
