Really have to disagree with you here 7. It really doesn't solely rest on Carey, but we were definitely outcoached in this one. HE has done a solid job keeping the glue together this season, but out secondary played so poorly. There were guys so wide open that anyone on this board could have made those throws. I have never seen a Division 1 game with that many blown coverages. 3 just on touchdowns. How many others were there that they just didn't find the open guy. Busted coverage is a scheme error usually because kids are reading their keys.

Also, offensively, I felt like Stingley should have carried the ball in the first half. When he touched it , it was for huge chunks of yards. ON the second drive in second half when we could have got it to a one score game, Stingley was gashing the defense , then we went 3 and out when he didn't get a touch. Then missed the field goal. I actually thought we did that quite a bit this season, Stingley would be getting chunks of yards then we indescribably just take him out. It happened all year. It killed us Friday. Lack of offensive diversity caught up with us when we needed it most. Obviously these are just my opinions.

I don't disagree Cam should have got the ball more. The 58 yard FG was dumb too. Reality is they lost by 3 TDs and were down by 4 with 2 minutes left. At no point did the defense show any signs of being able to slow down BG. It likely didn't matter.

If anything, you should give the coaching staff credit for making chicken salad out of a chicken **** defense for as long as they did. The didn't get much of a pass rush all year, the linebackers are mediocre, and the corners are really bad.

+1. Honors for who f'ed that game up are shared by both the players and the coaches. Defense played like deer staring into headlights and the coaches made some bonehead play calls. Enough "honors" to spread around.

And I am as disappointed as anyone, truly. But could you imagine what Baylor would have done to our secondary. I am a Huskie believer, but they may have scored 75-80. And that is not a joke. They throw it as well as anyone in the nation and they protect Petty as well as anyone. Winning the Poinsettia Bowl may be best thing that could happen to us long term.

Still would rather be in Fiesta, but it may have saved us a terrible embarrassment.

RE: Rod Carey Exposed
I'm not a fan of Carey's. But I'm less of a fan of the way NIU went about finding their new coach after Doeren left.

When Kill left before the bowl game, NIU took their time, did the proper search and ended up with a coach that kept NIU on the right path and continued to recruit and motivate the players.

This time, NIU was lazy and knee-jerk and took the easy/cheap way out. We deserve what is going to happen over the next couple years. Not this year necessarily, but this hurts for years to come.

Beyond disappointed.

Mmm...I kinda agree. I bet if we were not playing in the Orange Bowl, we would have had a more complete coaching search.

Carey isn't the future, any chance we can hire EIU's former head coach away from BGSU?

In the grand scheme of things, I know this is minor, but:

You have a skilled kicker who is clearly struggling psychologically. You what will probably make that better???

Talk smack about him on national TV one...more...time.

What has Carey done all season to prove that coaching was the reason we went 12-0? I think we're reaping the benefits of coaches past, and have had 'just enough' play calling and coaching to get us through each game.

What? You didn't like the way he "rallied the troops" to come back in the second half after under-performing in every single first half?

If all he's good at is 'second half speeches' we need to hire Tony Robbins as our head coach, not Rod Carey.
